Rod Stewart Confirms The Faces Reunion

Rod Stewart The Faces pacificphotos059017-26326pcn-Clarid_nc

There were strange rumors circulating in the summer that old-school rock group, The Faces, were about to reunite. I say strange because it seems a slightly pointless reunion to me. However, Rod Stewart has now confirmed the reunion is happening, and rehearsals are starting next week.

The Faces formed from the ashes of The Small Faces in 1969. The band existed until 1975 when Ronnie Wood left to join The Rolling Stones. Rod Stewart, meanwhile, had started a successful solo career. The rest of the group went on to have careers in music, some more successful than others.

And now, over 30 years after they split, The Faces are set to make a comeback, with a tour and new material expected. The four surviving members, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones are aiming for Summer 2009 to launch their collective careers once again.

Stewart confirmed the long-rumored reunion to The Mirror newspaper, saying:

“Yes, absolutely. We have our first rehearsal on Monday. It will be next summer and I am looking forward to it. It’ll be great. Ronnie is up to it. He is full of energy and very excited.”

I must admit that The Faces are one of those bands I know little about, which could explain by bewilderment and utter lack of excitement about this comeback. It’s hardly Led Zeppelin now is it. Having said that, Rod Stewart has a fine voice and there is no doubting Wood’s guitar playing skills so maybe they’ll surprise me with their awesomeness.

Had you been there in the late 60’s and early 70’s,you would have witnessed one
of the best LIVE rock n roll acts ever in the
history of rock. You sure got your monies
worth if you were lucky enough to catch
this band live. Most of there shows were
sell outs.To pass a comment like you have, without even doing your homework
on the band seems lame.Of course there not the same in there 60’s as they were
in there 20’s.Why do you think Plant dropped out of the Zep reunion. He know’s
he can’t hit the high notes and he wants to
be remembered as he was.For those who
witnessed the Faces live like I have, this will
be outstanding.Yes,Stewert will not sound the same as he did way back but who cares.
These dudes know there won’t be another
chance to reunite and tour if they pass on this one.So they will come prepared to rock
and as usual, give there fans there monies worth.Take a chance, buy a ticket and see for yourself when they tour this summer.
That way you can actually comment on something you have knowledge about and
    witnessed firsthand. CHEERS!!!!!

Oh David bless you! So young, and yet so clueless. Pointless reunion of Led Zepplin as well then. Stick your head above the ramparts and shout that and see what happens.

The finest exponents of blues and pub rock this side of Dr Feelgood ride back into town and you can’t see the point?

Cindy Incidentally and I’ve got my moneys worth. Mandolin Wind and I am in credit. Pool Hall Richard and I’ve won the lottery.
One of them is in a band called the ‘Rolling Stones’. Funny name I know sonny but maybe they’ll catch on.

Zeppelin, now that was a pointless reunion. The Faces blew them away as a live band years ago and still will now.

FYI the first 3/4 Rod Stewart ’solo’ albums were Faces albums.

They were generally accepted as the greatest live band in the early 70s and were never disowned when punk came along. In fact John Peel called ‘Stay With Me’ the most perfect single of all time even when he fell in love with the Undertones.

I can’t wait to see them – I don’t even care if what they play as long as they do Stay With Me and Ooh La La (Ronnie Laines best and on telly at the moment in that advert and Rod has only just recently recorded it – never sung it with the Faces).

OH DEAR, I’M SO SORRY THAT YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE OF A FULL BLOWN FACES GIG. RONNIE WOODS GUITAR PLAYING CAN BE MAGNIFICENT OR SHAMBOLIC (AS WITNESSED BY MNAY), HOWEVER HE DOES NOT GET CREDIT FOR HIS PLAYING, OFTEN IN THE SHADOW OF OTHERS E.G. JEFF BECK, KEEF, CLAPTON TO NAME BUT A FEW. MACS KEYBOARD PLAYING GREAT, HE COULD MAKE THAT HAMMOND SOUND AS IF A CHOIR OF ANGELS WERE SINGING AND JONESYS ROCK SOLID DRUMS ACCOMPANIED BY PLONKS SOLID BASS LINES TIED DOWN A VERY STRONG BACK BEAT TO BE SUPERBLY SUPPORTED BY STEWARTS VOCALS. I SUGGEST IF YOU CAN GET TICKETS YOU WILL ENJOY SOME OF THE FINEST ROCK AND BLUES PLAYING YOU WILL EVER HAVE HEARD. WATCH OUT WORLD.

Just writing the honest truth, been to the gigs, got all the music, play a lot of the music at our gigs, just be there, it will be great, promise. The Faces lifted gloom in Britain during the last real slump in the 1970’s. Their music was a release when me and my mates were growing up. Can’t wait.

John Peel is right; “Stay With Me” is THE BEST rock song ever, period. It had it all: a snarly guitar lead that started at 60 mph and finished even harder; a great vocal (when Rod still had lots of edge, kinda like Sir Paul once upon a time), and Ronnie Lane driving that totally unpredictable Faces rhythm section. Play this one loud in a cemetery and the corpses will start dancing. Can’t wait for this reunion!

I just caught Ian McLagan’s band “Bump Band ” in Buffalo N.Y. last night.Amazing show.Hammond B3 he played was just a
smokin ! Got to speak to him at the small venue after his show.I’ve been a Faces fan since 1971 and was in awe, till his down to earth personality put me at ease.He has no
rock star ego, what so ever.A real cool dude.
I asked him about a planned reunion in 2009
for the Faces and he chuckled a bit at first.
He said that the different legal teams for each member have to sort out the money
splitting part before its a go.He said the few
times they jammed in late 2008 went better
then they had thought and the original magic
was still there. As far as Ian is concerned it’s
    a strong go for late summer/fall 2009.Keep
in mind that the Faces were at there best when they were 1/2 pissed. Now that Ronnie
Wood is off the booze and the others have
tonned it down considerably will that affect
there live shows.Ian said not at all.Now we
can hear each other and the sound is a lot
cleaner. For all us true die hard Faces fans, let
us hope that it will happen afterall and loose
ourselves in pure hard driven Rock/Blues.For
those who still are undecided.Catch a show
and breath in the atmosphere that will fill the
    arena.After all ” A Nod’s As Good As Wink,
To A Blind Horse “. Need more be said ? God Bless the Faces. Now and forever.
