Robin Gibb: "I’ve never watched ‘Saturday Night Fever’"

saturdaynightfever Well, this is interesting. Robin Gibb says he’s watched “Saturday Night Fever” – even though his band, The Bee Gees, recorded the infamous soundtrack.

Gibb told BBC Radio 4, “It’s not that I can’t watch it. It’s just that I’m restless. We didn’t see the film until the premiere. (I) lasted half an hour… That actually is par for the course, because a lot of actors will go into a premiere and then go out the exit.” So now we know!

Gee, I don’t know how many times I’ve watched “Saturday Night Fever.” At least a dozen, once at the drive-in in 1977. I like to watch it every few years, just for the dance scenes. And the opening scene with Travolta strutting down the street always gives me a thrill.

I guess the Bee Gees are also thinking about reuniting next year to celebrate the launch of a musical based on the band’s career – despite the death of third member Maurice Gibb in 2003. Says Robin Gibb: “We are closer to that than we’ve ever been. It’s definitely maybe.” I wonder what they’ve been up to all these years…
