Robbie Williams – ‘Bodies’ Music Video Review

Despite continued rumors that Robbie Williams is on the verge of rejoining Take That, he’s still currently a solo artist. One who has something to prove after his last album, Rudebox, wholly failed to set the world alight. Reality Killed The Video Star isn’t released until November but it’s been preceded by the release of a new single titled Bodies.

Robbie Williams Reality Killed The Video Star

I personally feel this is make or break for Robbie. Sure, this single and album are going to sell regardless. Williams has got a large and loyal enough fan base that any old crap would sell, but if he’s not happy, and if the critics aren’t keen, a Take That reunion surely beckons.

I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. It’s slowly growing on me but Robbie’s older stuff, when he shared songwriting duties with Guy Chambers, instantly caught my attention. This doesn’t.

The whole thing feels out of its time, more suited to five years ago. Robbie’s singing style is quite jarring on the ears, more so than it was a few years ago. And the style and swagger Robbie demonstrates in the video also feels old-fashioned and just a little bit lame.

I personally think Robbie Williams is living in too much of a bubble, distanced from the real world to to great a degree to write and record music that resonates with people who don’t live in L.A. luxury, can’t get every woman they desire, and in essence, aren’t Robbie Williams.

For me, this is a fail. Robbie, get on the phone to Gary Barlow and beg for a return to Take That as you need them more than they need you.
