Recap of Fox Animation January 3, 2010

We got new episodes of “The Cleveland Show,” “Family Guy,” and “American Dad!” last night; here are a few thoughts on the shows:

Family Guy: “Big Man on Hippocampus”

Awesome “Family Feud” montage in the beginning, with hilarious Lois and Richard Dawson makeup session (both funny and completely disgusting, the hallmark of truly funny FG jokes). As Peter loses his memory, Quagmire makes the moves on Lois, with really weird groceries to add to the whole ambience of the thing. Fake Adult Swim commericals and excellent guest voice from the Rock nicely rounded out this episode.

The Cleveland Show: “Field of Streams”

No matter how much I really want to, I just can’t get into the Cleveland Show (although next week’s episode starring Jane Lynch might turn the tide for me). Cleveland flashes back to his high school memories of drinking and getting picked on by jocks, only to find out that his actions then impact his actions in the present, and various time travel shenanigans ensue. Meh.

American Dad!: “Don’t Look a Smith Horse in the Mouth

The Smith family learns to cut corners in this recession – even Fran pitches in to roll her own tampons, which is intriguingly hilarious. Roger the Alien as usual steals the show (why didn’t HE get a spinoff instead of the lame Cleveland Brown?!?!?).

Overall, not too bad a night. What did you think?
