Good Lord, where do I begin.
I suppose I should start with stating how I have no clue what this chap is going on about. Honestly, I’m sure he has a point. But what it is exactly? Let’s break it down, because this one really does require a bit of analysis.
"As an online publisher I do not want to do any hard thinking or risk paying copywriting fees for ideas that don

mr.Open…
No! You shouldn’t do that!…
Ronn, oops, I mean Stacy, congratulations on your success. I prefer to limit my efforts to advertisers convince me that they’re worth my time, and this ad decidedly does not do that. Folks among “those copywriters who has [sic] taken the time to study the best promotions written by the best copywriters, to work with coaches or mentors, and to work hard to develop your [sic] skills” are already making enough on their own that they don’t have time (or a need) for a self-proclaimed lazy slacker who makes vague promises about uncertain success. Or at least they know better. Sounds like you lucked out, Stace. Me? I’m going to wait for someone who doesn’t try to pressure me into giving my work away with lies about “common practice.”
You’re right. I suck.
I prefer to get paid for every bit of writing I do and encourage others to stay away from shady opportunities.

Hey, the poster (by the way his name is Ronn and he’s the real thing, unlike the Curmudgeon who hides behind his anonymity) is making a great offer for copywriters. I took him up on his offer and now I’m writing copy in conjunction with a major sci fi anniversary (you figure it out). These really are big name clients.
In the few days I’ve been working with him, I’ve been more productive and a lot happier than any time since college.
If you think about it, when you send a magazine article out on spec or you do a direct mail peice on spec, you’re doing the same thing you do here. The difference is, the upside is much bigger here.
So while YOU scoff at opportunities like this and publish a blog criticising real work, I’ll be doing writing which will earn me a real income. I’ll own a piece of the American Dream, I won’t be paying a landlord.
hee-larious… so glad for this blog — i’m tired tired tired of these bums looking for free, yet quality writing.
don’t forget to blog about those people looking for help writing the term papers they were unwilling or intellectually unable to complete..!
Some absolutely top of the heap direct mail writers do work out a percentage deal…and rake it in on the control every time it beats a new package. But this cheapo? I don’t think so. What a farce!
I would not even trust him to track the package and tell me honestly what it pulled.
Truth is, direct response is the most tested writing around. You can know what will work and what won’t. What you try to find is what will work better than the thing that already works very well.
Why should we risk-share with this bozo in the first place?
I will quit commenting so much. Sorry. But these things light my fire!
Your comments just crack me up, I really enjoy reading this blog! What amazes me more than anything is that these idiots are SERIOUS! They think it’s perfectly fine to ask what they do, and they expect writers to leap at the opportunity to work for nothing. Even sadder, some probably do it.
