Real prostitutes rate Secret Diary of a Call Girl's realism

Showtime & Sheraton Hotels Host Premiere Of "The Tudors" Season 2

Now that we’ve run through Season 1 of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, some viewers may be curious: How realistic is Belle/Hannah’s lifestyle? Salon’s Ondine Galsworth set out to answer that question by interviewing three high-class hookers.

Billie Piper’s portrayal of Belle comes off a bit hard, they say; instead, she should be warm and welcoming to her clients. Her loneliness rang true with one working girl, while another said Belle was a fool to pass up her john’s offer to set her up in a penthouse apartment.

Here’s a sample, from an LA prostitute turned So Cal stay-at-home mom:

“As an ex-call girl, it’s fun watching the show and seeing what is real and what’s completely off. I think it glamorizes the business a bit. Being a high-class call girl is a cool life if you know what you’re doing, but a very hard life too, which I don’t think they depict well on the show — just how stressful it really is.”

For the full story, including ratings from a $1,000 an hour lady of the night and a self-made sex worker from D.C., cruise on over to Salon.com.
