Another midseason, another fun premiere from USA Network and its laid-back crime dramedy Psych. This time around, on “Six Feet Under the Sea,” the episode’s unique slant is Shawn and Gus’ investigation of the murder of a seal. Yep, you read that right — a seal, like the kind you find in the sea.
This is no ordinary seal, however. It’s famous Shabby the Sea Lion, and when Gus takes Shawn along to the mammal’s funeral, the fake psychic senses something is very, well, fishy.

His murder suspicions aroused, Shawn looks into the situation further, only to realize soon that Shabby’s death isn’t the only thing that’s kind of hinky. Of course, that means it’s then up to the two best friends to help nab the guilty parties involved in a much bigger crime.
The main guest star on the episode is Married with Children‘s Ted McGinley, an actor I enjoyed on that long-ago series and haven’t seen in quite a while. He plays a celebrity Animal Planet staple who has an ego the size of California. Given his prior relationship with Shabby, he could very well also be a crook.
Shawn and Gus being, well, Shawn and Gus, there’s also a healthy dose of their typical argumentative shenanigans on “Six Feet Under the Sea,” which is why the episode rates as another must-see one for fans.

Psych airs Fridays on USA at 10pm EST.
