Prison Break’s Social Media Strategy!

422pbfinale_Sc51_0064.jpgIt seems that Fox cleverly employed social media by leaking spoilers to generate interest in the series finale and upcoming Prison Break: Final Break!

The studio relied on a well-timed social media strategy, including using networking services like Twitter and online forums to engage fans. Fox’s subtle approach dovetails with the findings of a recent Knowledge Networks study reporting that social media works better for brand-building than direct sales or tune-in pitches.

For Prison Break, they leaked bits about Michael’s death to get fans buzzing about the rumors. Steven Melnick, Senior VP of marketing at 20th Century Fox Television chatted with Beet.TV. He said that Fox used social media to both monitor and then shift word-of-mouth chatter about the show. Posting a photo of Michael and Sara’s wedding led to a whole new slew of social networking activity and subsequent interest in the DVD release.

To most effectively engage and ultimately activate the fan base, it is better to surprise them with a piece of content…that will keep the blogosphere alive, rather than giving them a promotional on-sale message which rarely has that effect,” he told Beet.TV. “It puts them in the position of evangelists for the property rather than merely consumers of it.

What do you think of this?

I’ve just watched the Final Break.
I don’t deny it’s a great ending to an amazing show,PB is the best show ever, but I insist the writers could let Michael live and it would still realistic.
They didn’t care about us as loyal fans.
The end could be great with a happy ending 4 Michael.IMO it’s soooooooooooo sad ..soooooooooooo tragic & even worse than any movie because we just watch any movie 4 just 2 or 3 hours ,but we have been living with PB almost 4 years.
It was like a fantastic dream & then we woke up suddenly realizing that was just a nightmare.
I don’t & I’ll never never forgive the writers how they could be so crul with us like this
Most of us r so disappointed about Michael’s loss…but any way it’s more than a great show.
Thanks Nikki 4 everything u did 4 us

    Cindy, you are absolutely right!
I won´t buy the dvd unless the offer an alternate ending or promise the fans to go on with season 5.
After four long year we deserve it!!!

I also do not buy any DVD.
    FOX played with us.
    I hate the finale.
And I never watch “Prison Break” again.
    The producers ruined “Prison Break”.

MICHAEL BELONGS TO HIS LITTLE SON AND SARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HE DESERVES TO LIVE WITH HIS FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was a hopeless “strategy”. Many fans feel cheated for the finale (for killing the main character), and won’t buy the DVDs. I was thinking of buying also the third season, but I won’t.

What do I think? To play the few remaining fans they had left is pretty despicable. This is why society is going to hell. The ratings were still awful for the finale and my series DVD set is going to be minus season 4 and the Final Break. So I guess I could thank them for saving me some money. By killing Michael they ruined the series for me.

Means they played us and we fell for it, no wonder the wedding pictures were flippen leaked all of the few seconds they showed us on air, talk about misleading, they knew that alot of us would tune in as Michael and Sara have a strong core support, using us to keep the intrest up but instead of throwing us that glimmer of hope they threw us a wet kipper. Makes me angry. Atleast have the gumption to be honest instead of spin it.

Is “Prison Break’s” Michael really dead?

That’s what Fox wanted viewers to wonder before the series finished its run on May 15.

But the studio that created the show — 20th Century Fox Television — also relied on a well-timed social media strategy to generate interest in the character’s fate, the final episode, and two never-before-seen episodes releasing on DVD in July.

    … two never-before-seen episodes…?
Do they mean “Prison Break: The final break”?
It was/ is aired by other tv stations.

    Israel only aired 83 minutes.
    There are 88 minutes.
    What does it mean?
    Big question?
    Or nothing?
