Prison Break: The Final Break Recap

Thanks to David G. for his recap:

Last week, we saw the explosive two-hour series finale of Prison Break.  This week, we were treated with another Prison Break two hour special.  Called “Prison Break: The Final Break.”  The story started off with Sara getting hauled off to prison after she was finally married to Michael.  She was arrested for murdering Christina.  That’s where the story starts to feel more like Prison Break’s former spin-off show, Cherry Hill.
At the female-penitentiary, we are greeted by new characters.  A few of the characters resembled a female version of T-Bag, named “Daddy” and of course Bellick, back when he was the king of Fox River. We also learn that our old friend, Gretchen was sharing the same prison.

Across the yard was the men’s side of the prison.  In that side, T-Bag and General Cranst were currently residing in.  Almost immediately they received word of Sara’s capture, and because the General was such a bitter old man, he put out a hit on Sara’s life.  Apparently Gretchen was the General’s inside ‘man’ inside the other prison.

When Michael learned about the hit on his wife’s life, he decided he had no other choice, but to once again stage a break out. We started to see more of the side of Michael we knew in first season, the plotting side.  He started going through newspaper clippings on the prison, and studied photographs.   Though newspaper clippings can only get you so far, Michael had Lincoln and Sucre stake out the prison, and find out where all the security cameras were placed, to find a blind spot.

That’s where Mahone made his re-entrance.  Apparently he was busy trying to get his old job back, but before they would allow that, he had to prove himself by spying on the brothers, which he told them about, to have them trust him while he really betrayed them. He went behind Michael and Lincoln’s back, and told Agent Wheatly, the head agent on the brother’s case, about what they were up to.

Wheatly acted upon Mahone’s intel, and installed a new security camera in Michael’s blind spot.  This put a giant boulder in his break out plan, but alas, he had another solution.  Drop onto the prison with a parachute to get Sara out of there.  Meanwhile, when Sara’s inmates try to stab her, Gretchen stops the fight, killing the assailant, earning Sara’s trust.  It seems Gretchen wants to escape with Sara, to give her daughter a gift she made on her birthday.  Sara really had no choice in the matter but to allow Gretchen to tag along.

Again, it appears Mahone betrayed Michael by telling Wheatly about the parachuting plan. Well, it was night, and the parachutist seemed to descend right on schedule.  Wheatly had his team ready to gun Michael down as soon as he landed, which they did.  I knew as soon as he had guns pointed in Michael’s direction he had something else planned, which he did.

While everyone was keeping an eye on the parachute, Michael made his way into the prison.  At the same time, Sara and Gretchen escaped the prison.  How? Apparently through an escape duct pipe.  I wish it were that simple in the first season.  Well Sara and Gretchen got outside, and immediately went to the church, because earlier, Michael sent her a decrypted message to “pray for us”.  Unfortunately, Gretchen was caught just outside the church, while Sara continued to escape.  Michael wasn’t too far behind, and also went into the church.  They went into the basement of the church, where there was a sealed door, and they waited for T-Bag to come through.

Earlier, the gang found out in order to see this through, they would need some help from T-Bag.  Lincoln told him they would pay him $5,000 to set a fire in the prison.  Apparently a fire drill that T-Bag would set off would distract them from looking in Michael’s way, while he set off the real fire.  When T-Bag’s money wasn’t wired, he went straight to the warden and told her Michael’s break out plan.  She ordered all the fire alarms and any other alarms to be stopped which they did.

Michael sat there at the sealed door, and waited until the alarms were stopped, as he originally planned, seeing T-Bag was a rat.  The stopping of the alarms allowed him to still set the fire without anyone noticing.  He opened the sealed door, and went to their exit door.  Unfortunately the door was also locked shut.  The cutting of the alarms did not open that door, as he anticipated.  There was only one solution left, he had to sacrifice himself.

With the last remaining smarts left in his head, Michael opened the power generator, and unplugged it, making the room dark.  He then cut apart two wires in the generator.  His last step was to connect the two wires, electrocuting himself, opening the doors and freeing Sara.   Wheatly wasn’t too far behind, but it was too late…she was gone.
T-Bag was put in solitary confinement for aiding and embedding Sara’s escape. All along, Mahone realized he betrayed them, and he realized his loyalty was with that group.  He gave Sara some paperwork, proving Michael was going to die anyway, due to the brain tumor that returned.  On a boat, Lincoln and Sara watched Michael’s very heartwarming goodbye video.  This ended the Prison Break story. At least his death felt more complete after watching this.

believe it or not, I have seen all seasons of Prison Break 15 times.

That will explain the quality of the season.

P.S he already he left her a letter showing that he will die anyway cause of his brain tumour that came back. so its too late to change anything now or get him back ;S

i don’t see how its possible to have michael living again after he was clearly electrocuted, you even saw it when happenning! where could he go after he had electrocuted himself with the fed heading to where they were. i honestly think resurrecting him would be unrealistic! and kind of lame? this was a sad yet convincing ending :)

The final break was sooooo sad but we saw michael emerging as a hero. His recorded bye bye message was to touching,… i cried. I am happy his son was going to be born and Sarah would see the Michael in him. Hey, did you hear what General Krenz told michael when michael visited him in prison? please replay and hear it that.

I think micheals death with electrocuting himself is much better than die of a brain tumor, of course its a shame he died, but its always better than die of a disease.

After years,if the writers decide, they can bring beck Wentworth Miller as his grown up child. It will became an event……
They may think about it…..due to future……

I’ve said in other places Abruzzi, Kellerman, Sara, Christina, Krantz to name 5 all “died” off-screen and were ressurected when the producers thought it would be profitable to do so. Michael is no different – If the Studio/Producers think its financially viable and can convince Wentworth with an interesting script, then Michael will live again.
In contrast, when someone actually died it happened overtly on screen and they were removed from the series forever. Westmorland, Abruzzi (2nd time), Tweener, Haywire, Steadman, Whistler, etc

I’ve just watched the Final Break.
I don’t deny it’s a great ending to an amazing show,PB is the best show ever, but I insist the writers could let Michael live and it would still realistic.
They didn’t care about us as loyal fans.
The end could be great with a happy ending 4 Michael.IMO it’s soooooooooooo sad ..soooooooooooo tragic & even worse than any movie because we just watch any movie 4 just 2 or 3 hours ,but we have been living with PB almost 4 years.
It was like a fantastic dream & then we woke up suddenly realizing that was just a nightmare.
I don’t & I’ll never never forgive the writers how they could be so crul with us like this
Most of us r so disappointed about Michael’s loss…but any way it’s more than a great show.
Thanks Nikki 4 everything u did 4 us

Ok People Mike is Dead but he did it for his family to live!!! That is what he was all about saving his family even if he had to sacrifice! I mean he went to prison for his brother why would he not die for his Wife and Son! Also Gretchen was not dead they left her there to die and the feds picked her up. what she was doing in miami and not LA is my question. (it sure was a shoker to see her there) Also who was that chic that played Daddy. i have seen her some where! ALL in all im sad to see it go but thank you Prison Break Staff for giving us 4 years of GREAT tv. Also thanks for clearing it all up with the final break!!!

Yeah I agree StarBreak37, I just can’t believe the show is over. If you compare it to other shows such as 24, it hasn’t made that many series. So hopefully the writers will round it off with a season 5. its like the producers cant be bothered to make anymore seasons so have just left it at Michael dead any way they can.

Yeah, technically it isn’t probable that Michael is alive even if they didn’t show the body – the show is over! Right?
But still, I bet there will be a couple fan fictions out there pretty soon showing him alive and returning to his family…. Everything is possible in ones imagination, haha=D

For people saying get over it, there is a possibility he is still alive so there is no point in saying “HE IS DEAD GET OVER IT” cause he might not be dead. And yes they are in a different country but Michael could have been taken up by someone for another missions. HE CAN STILL BE ALIVE!

    Yes, you are right!!!

We are going to get along just fine lol. I love Prison Break and it should not end yet. It would be fantastic for it to come back. Quick Question: I thought Gretchen was dead. How come she was in the prison?

lol- i also was a fan of sucre’s new ‘do’ … looked niiiiice…

and looking at the women’s prison, i would have actually LOVED fox river in comparison.. i actually felt for sara lol..

and seriously, can one of you just tell me HOW THEY COULD POSSIBLY bring michael back?? have him stroll in at the end of his dvd.. ‘hey, what are we watching?!’ hmm.. methinks NOT.

she is just run with lincoln and sucre. To a boat, wo drive them to Costa Rica. Were Lincoln with Sofia and LJ stay and Sara with Michael jr.
And I don’t think that Michaels body is buried there. It’s just a place to think of him.

Why is everybody here so upset? It’s just a good show.
    whatever

I only don’t get this: How T-bag got replaced from that miamiprison to Fox River? Like sucres beard.

    The finale is only stupid!!!!
    I hate it!!!!!
    Michael belongs to his family!!!
I will never buy any DVD!!!

    Sara is not free.
    And Lincoln neither.
They have to stay in Costa Rica.
If they return to the USA they will be arrested by the police.
