Speculation is flying that Prison Break may be on its last season, especially with this latest bit of news. It seems that the actors have been notified by 20th TV that the filming schedule might be extended to accommodate production of two additional episodes.
The writers have yet to pitch any ideas for these extra episodes, but rumor has it that this may be a series finale for the show.
Even if the two episodes are made, the studio has not fully committed to airing them. The material might be released this spring, or it might be added to the Season 4 DVD, or it may actually be a two-hour event for NEXT season! Who knows.

This is beyond retardation man. Been watching PB since Season 1 absolutely love and die for it. Best show I have seen in the 3 decades I have been alive , but Fox doesn’t seem to stop amazing me with their business decisions. They wanna cut PB to air Bones?/House?/Fringe?/Dont Forget the lyrics?Are you smarter then a 5th grader? Seriously WTF! Either that or the American audience are so fukin shallow it kills me. Fuk capitalism.
How many episodes each season did you say? Come on, let’s be realistic here. Let them be few episodes in order for the series to be an interesting feature.

I wouldn’t trust Wikipedia. The information on the site is updated by fans so anyone can write anything. If you want a more reliable website try tvguide.com or fox.com/prisonbreak, but I’d stay away from Wikipedia. There’s so much incorrect information on that website it’s not worth the time.
Typically Fox takes their fall break in November. I don’t think it was ever officially announced that it would be episode 13. Fans just assumed that because that is what always happens, but this season they decided to break at 16. Why? I don’t think anyone knows. That’s a question for Fox. It’s possible they thought episode 16 would be a better finale for the fall,or maybe it’s because of the speculation of adding 2 extra episodes this season. It’s impossible to guess what’s in the minds of Fox executives.
The problem of Prison Break is that it’s targetted mainly on male viewers. Who have (on average) plenty of money to be interesting for commercials, but at the same time many of them are IT-skilled and can easily download the epizodes through alternate channels – without the commercials. Thus, even though each epizode is seen by 20+ million people, they only get paid for those 5 million who watch it when it premieres on TV. Even Australians, who might watch it one week later, do download it, because it’s simply not acceptable for them to wait the week. And it’s even worse in Europe, where most countries “need” dubbing (German, French, Spanish, Czech, Slovak, Pollish, not to mention the northern countries), which delays the broadcast beyond acceptance. So instead, Europeans download the epizodes 1 day after original airdate via bittorrent.
In fact, IF FOX offered Prison Break epizodes with “hardcoded” advertisements via bittorrent at the same time they air in US, they might make more money than waiting for some foreign TV to purchase the show… :-)

But back to the topic: Since most viewers don’t pay for watching PB, the show is not making enough money for FOX. So they might as well cut the last 6 of the original epizodes (S4E17 – S4E22), and replace them with 2 new epizodes (17x – 18x), which will conclude the whole story.
Additional arguments: I observe Wikipedia pages of Prison Break carefully (3+ times a week), and watch as the info about upcoming epizodes changes. For instance, Epizode 14′s plot preview originally stated that Michael ends up in Company’s hands and they tell Lincoln they might save him if Lincoln does something for them. This is no longer written there — why? Did they replace the epizode with another?
Also, originally, the last epizode aired this year was meant to be #13 (with #14 in January), while now, they plan epizodes up to #16 in December.
Jason Leif was killed in the first episode.
The 2 extra episodes are in addition to the original 22 that are already a guarantee. No word yet on if or when they will be made.
This doesn’t mean the series is ending. The producers came up with adding an additional 2 episodes this season before the season even started, but didn’t know if it could be done. Now it sounds like they are in negotiations to make it happen. Apparently they felt bad that the viewers were cheated out of 9 episodes last season.
And what about Jason Lief? That’s one they built up and forgot about…what the hell happened to the whole Jason Lief thing? It’s like with Heroes…what the hell happened to Caitlin? Seriously…I hate friggin plot holes. Here’s hoping we get the whole season this time around and that they wrap up the series with a nice neat little bow for all the true fans since S1.

They better not put these 2 episodes straight onto the DVD if they happen, because I’m in Australia, and Season 3 hasn’t even been released on DVD here yet! I’ll be waiting for longer than a year to see these eps. Please air them so I can watch them online!

I’m very scared with as many confused news. .and if they cancel the series? a fantastic history as this deserves a decent end..
This is how i see the current theme’s of each season, summarized ..
1st Season; Mike breaking into (FOX River)-prison with the goal of breaking his innocent brother, Linc, free …
2nd Season; The good guys, (Mike, Linc, with the help of Sara), trying to get the charges dropped against them and there was something with / about Charles’ money .. LOL … Towards the end of the Season, Mike gets incarcerated into a hellish, Panamanian hell-hole prison with no rules and no guards .. But most shocking .. With only 13 ep’s !! :-0 :-0 Due to some lazy writers .. Anyway .. We movin’ on now …
3rd Season; Mike has to break out of prison .. Yet again .. **surprise, surprise** .. But THIS time around, he’s forced to break out some secrecy “fisher-man”, who supposedly workes for the Company, no, wait .. He DOESN’T work for them Does he??!.. Anywayss, he’s called James Whistler, no wait, his name’s Gary.. Gary Miller.. No wait.. Ahh .. My head hurts .. . Oh yea, some not-so-clear plot-holes / twist’s about Sara’s fate .. SHE’S DEEAAD!! OH NOO!!! :-0 :’( :-0
4th Season; Mike and Linc, with the help of Sucre, Mahone, Bellick and 2 new guys go after the 6 Scylla-cards .. Seemed like an ‘easy-peasy’, *BUT* … Don’t judge a book, eyes closed (Especially without the certaincy of 22 ep’s ..) ..And oh yea, Sara turned out to be just fine ..
5th Season; ???
and maybe i’m dead-wrong, but i thought this Season was all about “taking down the bad guys” .. i was under the impression that this was their main goal, main theme…
i don’t quite see how they’ll be able to “take down the Company once and for all”, if there is no 5th Season … and this Season without 22 ep’s …

22 episodes + 2 is fine.
I want to see a Michael and Sara love scene too. I hope it happens soon. And having 2 extra episodes is good news. I just really hope they can come up with a season 5, Im not ready to give up Prison Break yet, it is the best show in the world!!

I don’t know what anyone up there is thinking in FOX studios land. Air 22 freaking episodes please, that’s all I need.. You wanna air 2 more eps?? AWESOME!! have a 24 episode season like ’24′.
If this IS the last season, give us a little bit more.. Throw in those 2 extra episodes and that’s it. Even if they don’t air [the xtra 2 eps] they should be on the extra features section of the S4 DVD set.. I dunno, don’t really care, I just want a whole season, not a f’n 13 episodes like last season. That really sucked..
I agree if it’s 22 plus 2 then I’m fine. i hope it’s not 17 plus 2. I think all the fans deserve a decent ending for the show. We did read that we will get a full 22 episode season…right?
Hopefully.i dunno.I read the article,its quite confusing.It says too that the last 6 episodes probably won’t be aired cause it’s not on fox mid season schedule or sumthin like that and the ratings struggle this fall.But that’s when PB usually takes a long break,no?Then it says maybe they’ll air the extra 2 episodes for the next season or on dvd.
