After wowing critics in her feature film debut in Precious, actress Gabourey Sidibe is considering joining Showtime’s comedy pilot The C Word.
Sidibe is in talks to play a student at the school where Laura Linney’s character teaches, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Linney stars in the pilot as Cathy, a suburban mom whose cancer diagnosis doesn’t stop her from seeing the humor in a dark situation. The project also stars Oliver Platt as Cathy’s husband and British actor Simon Kassianides as her doctor.
If Sidibe signs on for the role of a student in Cathy’s summer-school class, the role could grow into a recurring character, especially with Sidibe riding high off her breakthrough performance in Precious, which earned Oscar buzz.
