Original Ghostbusters Murray, Aykroyd on board for remake – VIDEO

harold_ramis Harold Ramis recently stopped by MTV News to chat about his new Jack Black comedy "The Year One" (in theaters June 19). MTV took the opportunity to ask Ramis about the upcoming “Ghostbusters” remake. He co-wrote the first two “Ghostbusters” movies and also starred in them as the nerdy Dr. Egon Spengler.

Well, guess what?! Ramis (now 64!) says all the original core players are onboard for the reboot, including Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman) and Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Raymond Stantz), who co-wrote the original films. "We’re all going to be in it in different kinds of roles," Ramis said. "We’re going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters."

More after the jump, including a video…

With Judd Apatow signed on as a producer, expectations are high for the new movie. You have to wonder if Apatow favorites like Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen will be involved. That would be awesome.

But here’s what Rogen said when asked about it: “What? That’d have to be one great f—ing script for anyone to touch that.” They’ve got some pretty big shoes to fill, that’s for sure.

I’ll clarify my last – while I realize we’re not likely and shouldn’t get a duplicate of the original.
Rudd would be ok as new generation of Venkman (presuming might get stuck with the ‘favorites’ and Rogen as something similar to Moranis’ portrayal of Tully (though couldn’t possibly be as good) Rogen is just painful to watch for the most part.
Jim Parsons (sheldon cooper from Big Bang) would make a very nice replacement for Spengler.
Aykrod’s replacement would be much more difficult – though, again, DO NOT USE ROGEN HERE…………… AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Rogen
    superbad – sorta sucked
    40yr old – ehh
knocked up – ruined the movie
Pineapple Express – Horrid but everyone destroyed this movie not just Rogen.

Aykrod and Murray are two of the most openly funny people in history – so lets please put some serious though into this. Let’s not just make a worthless piece of forced attempts at humor.

Rudd would probably be good as Venkman
Rogen would be HORRIBLE for anything other than Tully. Do NOT have him as one of the staples.

Ghostbusters original remains one of the best movies – year one was about as funny as horse manure rubbed in your face. Please lets have a return to good old humor and timing.

Please for the love of god don’t make it 3D!!! 3D movies are so tacky. Anyways, to disagree with one dude below, no, Ghostbusters does NOT need to be in 3D to succeed, ofcourse. It’s Ghostbusters….they need no help in success, EVER. lol. This film will do great if they stick with the exciting thriller/comedy style they started off with. Meaning, kids should be able to watch this movie without having horrible dreams at night, because that’s who Ghostbusters was originally for….Kids and fun loving adults! :D I can’t wait!

This is indeed sweet,Im actualy excited about this. This is how to make a remake, involve the original cast and fans. the only thing if its going to have their characters then your misclassifying remake its a sequel, not remake if bill murry and the rest are acting LOL. With jack black, paul rudd and even the guy who played stiffler in american pie who was in role models with rudd would make a great alternative as a smart ass bill murray. jack black, stiffler, seth rogan that would be a sweet ghostbusters ^_^. This is how to treat fans with respect and not treat a franchise like somethings wrong with it and disenfranchise the original or fans like the nightmare on elm street remake that didnt even bother to cast englund or offer him a role lol. This is one remake/sequel I have been waiting for along while, even better that the original writers are on board.

For this one to succeed it will of course need to be in 3D but also not be so family friendly this time around. The franchise is strong enough that it can afford to get a little dangerous this time… we need actual death by ghost and more major role involvement by a ghost or ghosts.
