Official V trailer

Watch Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost’s Juliet Burke) in this 3-minute trailer for ABC’s new Fall scifi drama, V. V is of course a remake of the popular 80s miniseries and subsequent TV show, about aliens come to Earth with the promise of peace when their true aim is subversion. Mitchell stars as FBI Agent Erica Evans, and this trailer shows more of the overall plot of the show and the characters involved, than anything yet shown to the public.

Jury’s out on this one… But did that opening sequence remind you of anything?

Dang, that looks awesome. I love all of the stars from previous sci-fi shows and Morena Baccarin (Firefly) looks very much an updated Diana. Looks like the new version is taking a slightly different (and very timely, relevant) thematic approach than the original (WWII Nazi’s), but keeping the same essential storyline. I personally am looking forward to this.

I’ve never seen the original series, but the setup — with motherships suddenly appearing over major cities, and only one of the visitors communicating a peaceful message to Earth — is incredibly reminiscent of Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke. Fantastic, short book.

However, the aliens in the two stories turn out to be very different, I think. If you do read the book, don’t look anything up about it before you do, because there’s an awesome reveal about a third of the way through.
