Oasis have only just released new album, Dig Out Your Soul, but haven’t wasted any time in announcing the tour to support it, and it’s a big one. While there are currently only eight gigs on the agenda, they’re all at huge venues, including two dates in Manchester and one each at Slane Castle, Dublin, and Wembley Stadium, London.
Noel announced the new Summer 2009 tour at the new Wembley Stadium which has already played host to the likes of Muse and Foo Fighters since it reopened in 2007. Tickets for all the shows will go on sale on Friday, October 24th at 10am, and if other Oasis tours are anything to go on, they will sell out extremely quickly.
Support for the gigs will come from Kasabian and The Enemy, two bands clearly influenced by Oasis and who are likely to appeal directly to Oasis fans.
According to NME, this lead Noel to quip:
“Looking at the bill, I think these are going to be the gigs of next year, if not the decade for a certain demographic,”
“I’m just glad I can get tickets. These are the gigs that people remember, they meet future wives. I give thanks that we’re headlining it and not some heritage act on before a bunch of kids.”
The full list of venues and dates for Oasis’ Summer 2009 tour are:
06 June 2009 – MANCHESTER, Heaton Park
07 June 2009 – MANCHESTER, Heaton Park
10 June 2009 – SUNDERLAND, Stadium of Light
12 June 2009 – CARDIFF, Millennium Stadium
17 June 2009 – EDINBURGH, Murrayfield
20 June 2009 – DUBLIN, Slane Castle
11 July 2009 – LONDON, Wembley Stadium
12 July 2009 – LONDON, Wembley Stadium
The homecoming gigs in Manchester’s Heaton Park are interesting as it sees Oasis eschew their beloved Manchester City’s stadium for a public park in Trafford. Noel claims this is because the new owners of the football club didn’t need the money, and the band would rather play anywhere else but Manchester United’s ground Old Trafford.
With Dig Out Your Soul currently at number one in the album charts and also riding high in the US Billboard charts, Oasis look to be well and truly back on form. Check out my review of the album to see what I thought of the new direction.
