“No Man’s Land” Episode Recap

The cast and crew of CSI:Miami may be winning me over as a fan. I’ve tried to watch more and more of the series since there are so many opportunities for catching an episode in syndication on cable. I recently found out in an interview that CSI:Miami is the #1 show worldwide right now and with episodes like “No Man’s Land”, it’s becoming a little easier for me to understand why.

Here’s a quick synopsis of the episode:

Miami Dade PD officers Chris Ryder and Matt Cranby are driving a shipment of guns scheduled for destruction when an explosion throws their van into the air. Guns spill across the road as it slams back down on its side. As the smoke settles, people swarm from the streets to take the free weapons, swiping everything from machine guns to hand guns. When Officer Ryder regains consciousness, he tries to stop the looting but is shot. He is dead before he hits the ground.

Horatio surveys the scene. This was a professional job. There are too many telltale signs for it to be a random hit. Alexx finds a clump of hair in Ryder’s grip, probably from the perp. “He was a cop to the end,” she sighs as she bags the evidence for DNA testing back at the lab. Calleigh and Delko process the toppled van. Obviously some kind of explosive was used to flip the van, but what kind?

By the way, you can get more of a synopsis on CBS’s website if you’d like, but that gets you started.

The episode starts off with what you believe is some criminals with an arms shipment of some kind. It turns out that it’s actual officers getting ready to take the guns to a foundry to melt them down into harmless scrap metal.

They are ambushed on the street, killed, and the truck busts open and members of the community all converge and start picking up the guns off the street. [Side Note: Remind me not to move my family to that neighborhood in Miami].

It turns out that the reason for the ambush was only so a rocket launcher could be stolen by a convict’s cousin to help him escape from prison.

During the escape, Khandi Alexander’s character is caught in the explosion in the courtroom. Horatio and Eric Delko, played by David Caruso and Adam Rodriguez, chase after the escaped convict and Adam ends up getting shot in the leg and what looks to be in the head.

That’s the end of the first episode.

Great episode! I may be hooked. Let’s keep watching!

I have been a fan of CSI:Miami for maybe three years, but I got upset when they killed off Speedle. Now they’re getting ready to kill off Eric Delko. I think at this point, I’m done with the show. Horatio Caine is a bit much to take with his overdone “supercool” poses that he always does and his black suits with the know-it-all emotionless attitude.

The only characters I like now are Calleigh and Alexx, but they’re no longer enough for me to watch the show, so I’ll have to fill that hour with another show.
