TNT’s top two leading ladies — Kyra Sedgwick of The Closer and Holly Hunter of Saving Grace — attended the September 20 ceremony for the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards, but neither actress won the Best Lead Drama Actress statue.

Instead, the honor went to their fellow veteran thespian Glenn Close (pictured above on the red carpet before the festivities, looking cool and unworried in chic shades), who stars in basic-cable network FX’s intense original legal drama Damages.
Considering all of the incredible talent nominated this year, I can’t say I’m disappointed at this outcome. Kyra and Holly are still winners, no matter what, for making their respective series such huge successes for TNT.
