New Line, in conjunction with Platinum Dunes, is relaunching A Nightmare on Elm Street and I’m really disappointed. They’ve already found a new Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) and, no offence to him,
but no one will ever be Robert Englund to me. There are some things that I think should just be left alone and this franchise is one of them. Are we so out of creative ideas that we need to go back and rework classics?
In case you lived under a rock during the 1980s and 1990s, the films are about a killer, with blades as fingernails on one hand, who haunts teenagers in their dreams and tries to kill them as they sleep.
The film will be produced by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. This fact is comforting since Bay seems to be the remake king (The Amityville Horror, Transformers, Friday the 13th) and he’s made some of the movies that I’m only slightly embarrassed for loving (Armageddon).
