"Nightmare Before Christmas: Collector’s Edition" on DVD August 26

nightmarechristmasdvd Is it just me, or is there a new “collector’s edition” of The Nightmare Before Christmas released every year? I’ve done no research to back this up, but it seems like I get word of a new one about this time every year.

No matter. It’s a great story with drop-dead animation and awesome music. I expect nothing less from Tim Burton.

The official title is The Nightmare Before Christmas: Collector’s Edition, and it will be available on Blur-Ray Hi-Def and 2-Disc DVD August 26, 2008. Check out the official site here.

More after the jump…

To celebrate, Disney has created a cool new Dr. Finkelstein widget. Create your own Nightmare Avatar and watch the days count down to August 26.

As for the story, it’s been digitally restored and includes all-new bonus features, including Tim Burton’s original “Nightmare Before Christmas” poem performed by Christopher Lee (that alone is worth the price of the DVD), animated story boards, and a new film commentary by Burton, Director Henry Selick, and composer Danny Elfman.

Fans of “Nightmare” rival The Rocky Horror Picture Show in their cult-film passionry. Yeah, that’s a new word I just made up. Hey, I’m just trying to blend in with the Tim Burton crowd. Got a problem with that?

Dozer – Ah, thanks for jogging my memory. I was thinking of the 3D theatrical release last year. :-)

Not to be nit-picky (I mean I thought the same thing of “how many versions of this movie are there?” before I did research trying to buy this DVD last year) but this movie has been out of print since 2000, up until now.

And I’m glad it’s available again! Great movie indeed.
