The combination of producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Jon Turteltaub, Nicolas Cage, and Disney looks like a winner with "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice," a new live action version of the classic family movie starring Nicolas Cage and scheduled for a 2010 release. Those same folks worked together on the "National Treasure" series, which I loved.
Here’s the story straight from Disney: Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé, giving him a crash course in the art and science of magic.
Together, these unlikely partners must stop the forces of darkness. It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes … "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice"!
Baruchel is one of those actors you’ll probably recognize when you see him. His IMDB credits include a long list of movies and TV, including "Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist," "Tropic Thunder," and "Numb3rs." Take a look at the trailer – it looks pretty good!
