Escape to Chimp Eden premiered on Animal Planet on February 8th. The series examines the rescue of abused and neglected chimpanzees. According to Animal Planet, chimps have been caught up in the turmoil of war-torn countries and then become orphans of the bushmeat trade, where they are sold at markets or auctions. With only 150,000 chimps remaining in the wild, the chimpanzee population is being destroyed and the lives of these animals are being degraded. According to Animal Planet, “In South Africa, there’s a sanctuary for chimpanzees rescued from the horrors of human captivity – physical abuse, malnutrition, abandonment and drug and alcohol abuse. Now, for the first time ever, these chimps find a community and sanctuary at the hands of conservationist Eugene Cussons, South African rescue director at the Jane Goodall Institute’s Chimpanzee Eden”.

Eugene, I just wanted to drop a line to sat how much I admire your work you are doing. My hat is definetly tipped off to you. I watched the new episode last Friday , the one where your wife is about to have your child and your trying to figure out which five chimps you’re taking with you. I hope the one that is sick and loseing his will to live gets better. What’s his name, Jeff? Keep up the good work
I very much admire your work, Mr. Cussons. One day I would hope to join you in your mission to save all chimps, or at the very least, to make this a safer world for chimpanzees. Blessings upon you and your family. Keep up the good work and I will continue watching and admiring you from the sidelines.
Eugene Cussons, you are doing a tremendous job. It is wonderful that the chimps have someone young that is interested in their welfare.
Is Cosi comfortable at climbing trees yet?
What happened to Josephine?
Is Jinga an accepted chimp with the adults?
How are Sampa and Toni doing.
