New Radiohead Album Getting Closer To Release

Radiohead are one of the finest bands ever to have come out of the U.K. However, like all masters of their chosen art, they do like taking their sweet time over crafting their latest work, which will undoubtedly turn out to be a masterpiece.

It’s been a strange few months in terms of what has emerged from the Radiohead camp. For a time it looked as though the group wouldn’t be making any more albums, but that rumor was finally put to bed by Ed O’Brien’s reassurances in October.

The new album is definitely coming together, and Ed took some time to post an end of year update on Radiohead’s Dead Air Space blog. Alongside a huge rant about the recent UN Climate Change Conference and a strange list of 10 movies to watch over Christmas, O’Brien said:

“The vibe in the camp is fantastic at present, and we head off into the studio in January to continue on from the work we started last Summer .. I am so genuinely excited about what we’re doing, but for obvious reasons I can’t divulge anything more.. anyway we all love surprises don’t we? 10 years ago we were all collectively (that’s the band) in the land of Kid A .. and although hugely proud of that record, it wasn’t a fun place to be .. What’s reassuring now, is that we are most definitely a different band, which should therefore mean that the music is different too and that is the aim of the game….keep it moving.”

Which all sounds encouraging. Radiohead are the very essence of a band who have continually evolved. You can hear the progression with each album, and I have high hopes that the new album they’re working on will top the brilliant In Rainbows. Even if it isn’t offered (almost) free.
