New HBO Sitcom: ‘Bored to Death’ Premiere Preview

Sunday, September 20 is a big day for fans of scripted comedies on premium-cable network HBO. Not only will Larry David kick off the seventh season of his twisted hit Curb Your Enthusiasm at 9pm ET, but the new original sitcom Bored to Death will premiere immediately afterward at 9:30pm.

Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis/Bored to Death

Bored to Death stars Jason Schwartzman (Cracking Up), pictured above at left with his co-star Zach Galifianakis (Reno 911!), as Brooklyn, New York-based writer Jonathan Ames. The pen slinger is so affected by a painful breakup that he attempts to get over the failed relationship by pretending he’s a private eye similar to those featured in classic detective novels. I kid you not.

Joining Schwartzman and Galifianakis on the show’s marquee is Cheers veteran Ted Danson. Other familiar funny people set to appear include Heather Burns (Twenty Good Years), Patton Oswalt (The King of Queens), Oliver Platt (Huff), Parker Posey (The Return of Jezebel James), and Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live).

Bored to Death officially launches on September 20 with the premiere “Stockholm Syndrome.” Sample the episode in the pair of sneak peeks graciously provided below, or if you’re really anxious to watch, just surf over to HBO On Demand, Amazon.com’s Video On Demand Service, Comcast’s Fancast.com, or iTunes. HBO released the entire first episode to those websites so interested people won’t have to wait all the way until this Sunday to check out its latest potential comedy masterpiece.

Bored to Death will air Sundays on HBO at 9:30pm ET. The series was created by Jonathan Ames and its executive producers are Jonathan Ames, Sarah Condon, Stephanie Davis, Dave Becky, and Troy Miller.
