When SCI FI Channel began broadcasting, oh so many years ago, the network was primarily airing old scifi series and B-movies. These days, the channel has a very respectable slate of originals including “Stargate Atlantis,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Ghost Hunters” and more. Still, I often miss the days were comfort programing (those shows we watched as kids) ruled the airwaves. If I had a chance to program my own SCI FI Channel, here’s what I’d do.
Monday
It’s a trip to the 70′s and 80′s with “Space 1999,” “Planet of the Apes: the Series” and the original “Battlestar Galactica.” Tony Anholt, James Naughton and Dirk Benedict all in one night. Be still my heart.
Tuesday
And speaking of be still my heart, this would be my tribute to Jensen Ackles day. “Smallville,” followed by “Dark Angel,” (second season only) topped off with a spine-tingling (and not just cause they’re scary) episode of “Supernatural!”
Wednesday
This would be my all Irwin Allen day. I’d start with “Lost in Space,” roll into “Land of the Giants” and finish off with a weekly dose of “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.”
Thursday
Today we roll out the anthologies. I’d mix up “Twilight Zone,” and “Outer Limits” because no one ever remembers which is which anyway, and I’d finish with a dab of “Night Gallery.” Just perfect right before you go to bed!
Friday
Hmm, this day I could almost leave the same. It’s “Doctor Who,” (before the kiddies go to bed) then “Torchwood,” and “Stargate Atlantis” stays in its current spot.
Weekends
The weekends would be entirely devoted to old B-movies and early classics such as “The Thing,” “The Creature from the Black Lagoon,” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” “The Fly,” well, you get the idea.
If you could program your own SCI FI Channel, what would you put on the schedule?

Previous Post
wow I think you nailed it Cynthia. I wouldn’t change anything on your list and it would certainly make for an improvement on the current selection of wanna be horror films that are on with things like closeups of bass turning them into huge monsters that enjoy attacking fishermen and preposterous disaster movies. (Actually if the fish did attack “preposterous disaster movies” I’d be fine with that.)
How about a little science in science fiction please!
I agree with Morjana’s choices, with one exception. Saturday night should be Mystery Science Theater! That was the first show I ever watched on SciFi, and it still ranks up there with the best.
My SciFi would be:
MONDAY
Star Trek — 24 hours of Trek.
However, there would be no bloody Star Trek: Voyager and no bloody Star Trek: Enterprise.
The day would start with four hours of Star Trek: TOS. Then an hour of Star Trek: The Animated Series, followed by a Star Trek movie for two hours.
Then another three hours of ST: TOS, followed by seven hours of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and finally, seven hours of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
TUESDAY
ALIENS DAY
I’d divide the day with reruns of Alien Nation (including the movies), Starman, Farscape, The X-Files, Red Dwarf.
WEDNESDAY
MILITARY IN SPACE
Space: Above and Beyond, Babylon 5, Space Rangers, Battlestar Galactica (old and new series), Stargate SG-1.
THURSDAY
CAMP AND CLASSIC DAY
Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Greatest American Hero, Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman (the original), Lost in Space, The Prisoner (Patrick McGoohan…yum!).
FRIDAY
SciFi Friday
Sanctuary
Stargate Atlantis
Firefly (this would be the NEW series — It’s my dream network, and this network has a new Firefly series)
Stargate Universe
WEEKEND
Movies all weekend long, the classic scifi movies. Forbidden Planet, The Thing From Outer Space, Ice Pirates (cough), Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Both Saturday and Sunday nights would be NEW and original movies — and they’d be SciFi movies, not when animals attack movies.
