Since this is the episode that precedes the final installment of My Boys’ second season, it’s no surprise the events mostly set up a bunch of tense or unexpected situations requiring resolutions — or potentially cliffhangers — in the finale.
The entire gang heads to the ridiculously huge and opulent ranch of Bobby and Jack’s father George Newman, a shameless dirty old man and dedicated drunk who repeatedly asks a totally disinterested Stephanie to marry him, which would make her wife Number Six. Stephanie is more interested in continually hounding Kevin for his lack of class, however, so it’s no surprise when PJ, unaware, passes by them making out in a room alone at the end of the episode.
Mike scores, too, with an older woman at the ranch’s welcome wine tasting and barbecue played by Mimi Rogers. After they eventually wind up in bed together following a day full of drinking wine by the gallon — Mike’s a beer dude, so the wine gets him drunk but doesn’t satisfy him — she leaves him in a room asleep while the rest of the gang worries about where he is.
PJ spends almost the entire episode trying to avoid Bobby discovering that she’s hooked up with his older brother Jack. Her efforts to keep the peace don’t help much in the long run after Bobby, tired of his brother and supposed best man doing squat to help out or keep their father in check, gets into a serious brawl with Jack while he’s toasting his guests.
The classic sibling rivalry — Bobby thinks Jack is never there for him, and Jack thinks everyone always blames him when things go wrong — proves too much for Jack, and he grabs his bags and leaves after the big fight. His departure only adds to the pressure of the minister canceling at the last moment because of kidney stones.
So, will Jack and Elsa get married after all on the big finale, or will the wedding be canceled, not because of PJ’s thing for Bobby, but because of Bobby’s bizarre family? Stay tuned…
