My Boys: 2.1 ‘The Transitioning’ Recap

Jordana SpiroOriginal Air Date: June 12, 2008

Let’s get it over with right away: the guy PJ chose to ask along on her and Stephanie’s trip to Italy is none other than her fellow sportswriter Bobby. Now that the not-so-big-anymore secret is out of the bag, here’s what else happened on the very nice second-season premiere of My Boys.

Although PJ initially thinks Bobby shares her romantic feelings for him, probably because of such incredibly grand gestures as upgrading her seat to first class (do you know how much a first-class plane ticket costs these days?!), it quickly becomes clear that Bobby is just being a nice guy because he has the means.

PJ grows increasingly frustrated over Bobby’s lack of awareness, which is her fault since she refuses to be straight with him. Then when Stephanie breaks up with her boyfriend Lance after a night of fighting, the romantic twosome PJ fantasized about instantly becomes a friendly threesome, thanks to Bobby’s invitation to Stephanie to stay with him and PJ in his family’s villa for the remainder of the trip.

Back in Chicago, the rest of PJ’s boys are clueless as to where Bobby has gone, and they’re worried after not hearing from him in a day, although none more than poor Kenny, who’s obsession with Bobby’s whereabouts and safety is a whole lot more than odd.

When the guys aren’t busy noting Andy’s recent extravagant purchases now that he’s a bigshot lawyer, Kenny continues fretting about Bobby, Brendan complains about a threatening format change on the horizon at his radio station (they’re abandoning hard rock for soft rock), and Mike becomes determined to sleep with Crowley’s waitress Teri.

As PJ learns when she and Stephanie return to the States, Mike succeeds in bedding Teri. The situation is most unfortunate for the gang because they get banned from their favorite hangout when Mike predictably doesn’t call Teri after their “date,” and she gets not just angry, but revenge, too.

Diplomatic PJ eventually has a talk with Teri, basically confirming that Mike is a dog. The bigger development, however, is the one that continues on the second episode. Following her bad experience with Lance on the trip, Stephanie writes a relationship book in record time, completing it soon after she returns home.

Next up, several publishers will go wild over Stephanie’s work, but will the adoration go to her already nice-sized head? Seriously — what do you think?
