Talk about someone who’s really seen a lot. Majel Barrett Roddenberry, widow of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, died Dec. 18 in her Bel-Air home. She was 76.
I would loved to have been a fly on the wall during some of their pillow talks or dinner talks or whatever. I wonder if they discussed what Capt. Kirk would do in the next episode or if Spock would be more human.
She’s seen a major piece of history happen, not to mention her work as the voice of the Enterprise computer in several of the "Star Trek" franchises and her appearance on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" as Lwaxana Troi. One of my favorite episodes was where she and the shape-shifter ended up making a connection in the elevator. Such a sweet scene.
Roddenberry played the dark-haired Number One in the original pilot, but morphed into Nurse Christine Chapel in the original 1966-69 TV series.
More than 250 friends and family gathered at a Los Angeles cemetery today for her funeral. Among the mourners: Nichelle "Lt. Uhura" Nichols, George "Mr. Sulu" Takei and Walter "Mr. Chekov" Koenig.
Three people wore Star Fleet Academy formal tunics and many others were sporting "Star Trek" rings, pins or medallions. I think that’s cool.
