Miss/Guided: 1.3 ‘The List’ Recap

Recap
Original Air Date: March 20, 2008

During a counseling session with student MEREDITH RITTER (Guest Star Daniella Monet), who’s just had a nose job in hopes that it will decrease the amount of teasing she suffers for having a big nose, BECKY FREELEY learns about lindsaylopez.net. The website is an anonymous gossip blog about things relevant to Glen Ellen High School. Among the posts Meredith mentions is The Most Doable Teachers List.

Becky is immediately incensed, and after Vice Principal BRUCE TERRY finishes spouting off about plastic surgery being chicken soup for the face when he cringes upon seeing Meredith’s bandage-covered nose, she pulls up the blog on her laptop. Unfortunately, the Most Doable Teachers List has bad news. Becky’s rival, English teacher LISA GERMAIN, is at the top of the list, while Becky is lost in the middle at #18.

Becky pays Bruce a visit next to have him discontinue the blog due to its demeaning nature. He disagrees with that move, however, because he feels the site provides valuable intel he wouldn’t be able to get any other way.

His opinion rapidly changes, however, when someone posts a photo of him on all fours with a student during wrestling practice under the caption “Here & Queer.” Bruce makes it his mission then to find the person responsible for the blog, first interrogating students relentlessly and finally searching students’ lockers.

He hits pay dirt when he finds the wrestling photo in the locker of a male student who’s a dead ringer for real-life, prominent celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton. Bruce’s punishment for the teen includes forcing him to remove the wrestling photo from the blog and replace it with a full-page ode to Bruce’s heterosexuality using images approved and provided by the Vice Principal. The only problem is the Village People-style photos — such as him dressed in black leather like a macho biker while standing next to a huge motorcycle — make him look more homosexual than ever … and Bruce doesn’t even realize it.

Despite her vocal claims that she doesn’t care about a stupid list and that she won’t change her ways because of one, Becky arrives at school the next day dressed like a slut in a bad 1980s music video. She looks into the window of Principal PHIL HUFFY‘s car in the parking lot to check herself out and ends up with a neck brace after he knocks her in the head when he opens the door to exit. The result — Becky drops to #40 on the Doable list, the very bottom.

Earlier, Principal Huffy informs TIM O’MALLEY that he disapproves of him showing dubbed movies to his Spanish class. This forces Tim to find a more creative way to teach the language. His solution is to hold a car wash event one weekend, during which students can only speak Spanish. They’ll also give the proceeds to a Mexican orphanage for charity purposes.

Lisa immediately volunteers herself and her cheerleading squad, and Becky, not wanting to be outdone, volunteers, too. She hopes the car wash will give Tim a chance to see what she’s like away from school and during a casual situation.

By the time the event rolls around, Becky’s in her neck brace. She shows up anyway, but Lisa and her similarly half-dressed cheerleading squad have a lock on the male customers’ eyes and tips. Even more sadly, a student photographer picks the worst time possible to snap Becky’s picture — when she’s sliding over the backseat while cleaning a car.

The resulting picture gets Becky all the way to the top of the Doable list, and Becky’s thrilled as students cheer her on during her arrival at work the day she makes #1. Later, however, she has a private conniption fit in her office when she learns why she moved up so far so fast.

The student’s photograph from the car wash shows her in a skirt with her legs open and wearing no panties, splayed out on a car’s backseat. In all fairness, it was laundry day and she told the student to wait while she struggled to sit up properly.

Humiliated, Becky apologizes profusely when Huffy stops by to advise her about her manner of dressing. Meredith visits, too, to thank Becky for showing she follows her own advice. When she advised the student to ignore the humiliating photos being posted of her nose, Meredith thought Becky was just blowing hot air. Seeing how she handled the no-panties incident proved to Meredith that Becky practices what she preaches, so the humiliating situation works out for Becky after all.
