Milla Jovovich in ‘The Fourth Kind’

When I went to see District 9, I saw a preview for The Fourth Kind and I’m really looking forward toTFK_MT_03_2K.127 seeing it. Good ol’ Milla never disappoints me and the combination of “never-before-seen archival footage” with live action seems like it could be interesting.

The fourth kind is a term used to describe an alien abduction. The film is set in modern day Nome, Alaska where supposedly since the 1960s, a large number of the population is reported missing every year. I haven’t researched this yet so if there are any readers in Alaska who can comment on this, please do. Milla Jovovich plays psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler who began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and discovered evidence of alien abduction in the process. Supposedly this footage is integrated into the film, where abductees share disturbingly identical details about their alien encounters.

Do we have another Blair Witch or The Haunting in Connecticut on our hands? Is all this a marketing ploy or do you believe in the Nome abductions?

Look for The Fourth Kind in theaters November 6.

Having grown up in Alaska myself, we do live differently. We all lived in igloo’s and had to hitch the dogs to the sled to get from place to place for 9 months out of the year. We brought snow-shoes just in case the sled broke down too.

Seriously though, it really isn’t that much different. We just get a ton of snow and really cold. We did the right things to adapt to it and all the major cities (Nome not being one of them) are just like any city you find in the “Lower 48″ of similar size. We just had cool things like “mountains” and “moose” and “whales” and “the northern light (Aurora Borealis for the smart people).”

Sure life for the Native Alaskans is a bit different but no more than the other Natives across the US (ie the people here before whitey). Anyways, enough digressing.

I am looking forward to this fictional movie. Looks awesome and it stars Milla. What more can one ask for?

Oh well, if you say it’s far-fetched it must be!
Deny all you want. Alien encounters/abduction are REAL.
Don’t expect newspaprs in alaska to shine positive light on a film like this.

Besides, people in alaska DO live differently. I thought that was thew whole point of living in alaska ;).

I’m from Anchorage, AK and I can tell you that this Abigail Tyler person is fiction and so is that whole abduction story.
I love a movie that makes you go, “is this real?” but trust me, this one is very far fetched.
I’m looking forward to seeing this movie, just because I like to go to ‘Alaskan’ based movies and complian about how everyone in the lower 48 thinks we all live so differently here.
The Anchorage Daily News has some good things to say about the topic of this movie. (http://community.adn.com/adn/node/143292)

Please, when you see this movie, remember that it’s fiction. We don’t have vampires, and we don’t have aliens. We do have drunks (like a lot of the rest of the country) and it does stay really cold for a lot longer here.
