Michael Emerson answers the fans

Entertainment Weekly And Vavoom Host Upfront Party

Lost actor Michael Emerson (Benjamin Linus) has answered fan questions in a special interview over at Lostpedia. Most of the questions are about his approach to the character, but there are some revealing bits if you read through the whole thing. A few highlights:

  • He considers Ben’s relationship with Richard Alpert to be “one of the great mysteries of the show.” He believes the nature of their relationship makes Richard either a surrogate father/mentor to Ben, or a corruptor.
  • He says he was “shocked” at Ben’s role in the Purge of the Dharma Initiative.
  • Remarking on his highly emotional turn during the “frozen donkey wheel” scene, he explains that director Jack Bender told him that this was going to be the end of Ben’s life as he knew it, coupled with the death of Ben’s daughter. It couldn’t help but be a heavy moment for the character.
