Newcastle Brown Ale is as famous a north-east icon as the Tyne Bridge, and the Angel Of The North in Gateshead. Catching up fast in the fame stakes are Maximo Park, the Newcastle band who grab more fans with every single and album release.
So, it’s only right that these two giants of north-east culture should work together, and that is exactly what is happening.

Tyneside Brewers, the makers of Newcastle Brown Ale, approached the band, and asked if they’d like to work together. Maximo obviously agreed, and Maximo Brown Ale is due to go on sale from December 15th.
The band agreed to design the label for the beverage, and it will go on sale in bars nationwide, for a limited time, to coincide with their gig at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.
Frontman Paul Smith said:
“So many amazing things have happened for our band in a short space of time and to have our image emblazoned on a Brown label is another addition to that list.”
“It would be great for our band to be as synonymous with Newcastle as the mighty Brown Ale, and it’s both amusing and an honour to be able to deface the label in this manner!”
This is only the second time that Newcastle Brown Ale has been released with alternative packaging, so it’s quite an honour for the band. The last time was to mark Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer’s retirement in 2006.
Maximo Park’s new single Karaoke Plays is out now, and I reviewed it last week on Brit Music Scene.
