Matt LeBlanc to star in Showtime comedy

Matt LeBlanc shooting his show Joey on Venice beach in California. So his Friends spinoff didn’t exactly catch fire. Forget about JoeyMatt LeBlanc’s headed back to TV in a new project for Showtime, the network announced this week.

The comedy, called Episodes, features LeBlanc playing himself as the star of a British TV show that’s been imported to the States (think Coupling). Hilarity ensues as Hollywood execs transform the series into a show unrecognizable to its creators across the pond.

In Showtime’s annoucement of the new project, LeBlanc said he’s excited to work with Showtime and with Episodes creators David Crane (Friends, The Class) and Jeffrey Klarik (Mad About You, The Class). He also joked that he’s glad he earned the part because “seeing someone else play Matt LeBlanc would have been devastating.”

Episodes starts filming in London and Hollywood this winter. It’s scheduled to air on Showtime and BBC Two in 2010.
