A leaked marketing survey appears to have spoiled the plot of the upcoming sequel in the Ultimate Alliance series of video games. According to that survey, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 will feature the controversial Civil War storyline.
In that series inspired by the real life Patriot Act, Marvel heroes were required to register their secret identity and super powers with the federal government. Those that didn’t became fugitives. Repercussions from this storyline include the death of Captain America and near death of May Parker, resulting in Spider-Man making a deal with the devil to save her.
Rumor has it that you would be allowed to choose either side in the game’s storyline, which I would assume would branch in different directions depending on your choice. All that really matters is an excuse for Marvel heroes to punch each other – hard.
If these rumors hold up, that would be different than what Activision teased at the end of the first Ultimate Alliance. In that game you steal equipment from Galactus’ Worldeater Apparatus. The Big Purple People Eater vows revenge on you, implying he would show up in a sequel. Maybe Activision saw the box office receipts from the latest Fantastic Four movie and figured Civil War was a hotter property.
The game’s roster also reportedly features the Incredible Hulk who was off becoming the leader of Planet Hulk when Civil War took place in the books. Hey, we’ll take artistic license if it means we get to pound on Iron Man with ol’ Green Jeans.

Nah, the recent “GameInformer” mag explains it all. From what I read the narrative of the game leads to civil war onset by end of game. Another addition from the 1st UA is that now you can combine 2 heroes powers to create 1 powerful assault. With “UA2″ having a solid narrative, this one I’ll own. I think that’s why I never owned the 1st one. That & being stuck on the helicarrier forever.
–Godspeed–
Does this mean that Captain America gives up in the middle of the game?
