Madonna Has Thirteenth Chart Number One With '4 Minutes' - Fifth In Overall Rankings

Madonna Has Thirteenth Chart Number One With ‘4 Minutes’Madonna has secured her thirteenth number one record in the UK singles chart with 4 Minutes. Her collaboration with Justin Timberlake, produced by uber hit maker Timbaland, jumped from number 4 (fittingly) to number 1 over the past week.

Not only is this Madonna’s first number one since 2006, when she hit the top spot with Sorry, but it also takes her to fifth in the list of people who have had the most number ones in the UK.

At the moment, Elvis Presley (21 number ones), The Beatles (17), Westlife (14) and Cliff Richard (14) are all ahead of her in the pecking order, but Clliff only puts out a record once every 5 Christmas times, and is about 80 years old. The others are either dead or not recording any more, so the chances of her climbing higher are good.

Madonna’s rise to the top knocks Estelle and Kanye West from their pedestal, where they spent four weeks.

The top ten UK singles in full:

1. (4) Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake – ‘4 Minutes’
2. (1) Estelle ft. Kanye West – ‘American Boy’
3. (2) Sam Sparro – ‘Black and Gold’
4. (3) Flo Rida ft. T-Pain – ‘Low’
5. (9) September – ‘Cry For You’
6. (14) Usher ft. Young Jeezy – ‘Love In This Club’
7. (5) Mariah Carey – ‘Touch My Body’
8. (6) Duffy – ‘Mercy’
9. (24) Last Shadow Puppets – ‘The Age of the Understatement’
10. (10) The Kooks – ‘Always Where I Need To Be’

I’ve reviewed most of these over at Killed By The Video Star, so head on over there and use the search function to see which I rated and which I didn’t.

Meanwhile, Madonna, though pushing 60 (surely by now), continues to make brilliant records, and attract collaborations with the current cream of the crop in music. The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, may be dead (he’s not, but you know what I mean), but you can join me in a chorus of “Long live the Queen!”
