Episode 4.06: The Other Woman
Airs: March 6, 2008
Recap

Flashback:

Juliet is raking a zen rock garden. She looks around the room. A woman enters. Her name is Harper and she’s a therapist. “How about we call it talking, instead of therapy,” she says. “So you’ve been here a week.” And she asks what her least favorite part thus far. “I don’t like being treated like a celebrity,” Juliet says. Harper says that she is not a celebrity. And soon enough she’ll feel like the rest of them.

Tom bursts in and says that they need the doctor. “It was nice meeting you, Juliet. Welcome to the island.”

Tom leads Juliet to her house. Ben welcomes her with flowers. Juliet can’t believe that the entire house is just for her. “Two bedrooms, two baths, washer, dryer …” Juliet says that he shouldn’t have gone to all the trouble. She’s only going to be there for six months.

On the Island:

Sun helps Juliet set up her tent but asks why she’s going to all this trouble if they are about to leave the island. “I still need somewhere to sleep tonight, right?” she replies.

Jack asks where Charlotte and Faraday are. All their stuff is gone. Jin steps up and says that he saw them going off into the jungle. “Why didn’t he say anything?” Jack asks. Jin responds that Jack said they were friends.

“Aren’t they?” Sun asks.

Jack directs them all to fan out and hands out torches. It starts to pour.

Juliet hears noises in the jungle. She spins around. She turns. It’s Harvard. “Hello Juliet, long time, no see.”

Juliet asks what she is doing there. Harper says that Ben sent her. “The two people you’re looking for. Faraday and Lewis. They’re heading to the Tempest. And if they figure out how to deploy the gas, everyone on this island is going to die.” When Juliet questions about Ben being a prisoner, Harper then says that he is exactly where he wants to be.

“How am I supposed to stop them?” Juliet asks. Harper says to hold the gun and pull the trigger.

“Who are you?” Jack asks as he pulls a gun on her. “I’m an old friend of Juliet’s. I just told her where the people you’re looking for are headed. Maybe you and your gun can go too.”

Then she’s gone and the noises are back. Jack and Juliet look around in the dark.

Flashback:

Juliet is crying. She’s in the lab, hears noises, and she stands up. It’s Goodwin. He says he was looking for some gauze and didn’t know anyone was there. He has a burn from the power station. Juliet asks to take a look at it.

He says that he heard they lost another woman that morning. Juliet is visibly upset. “Nobody expects you to fix it overnight,” Goodwin says. He asks if she has anyone to talk to … Harper? Juliet says that Harper hates her. They only talk because they have to.

“She’s my wife,” Goodwin says. Juliet is embarrassed. He says it’s okay and if she needs to talk, he is around.

Juliet says that if he doesn’t tell his wife what she said, she won’t tell anyone how he hurt his arm. “I know a chemical burn when I see one.”

On the Island:

“Farday and Goodwin are heading to the Tempest,” Juliet tells Jack.

“The Tempest?” Jack asks. “It’s safer for you if I don’t talk about it,” Juliet replies. She then tells him that it’s the electrical station that powers the island.

Jack grabs her. “Hey, if you’re going to tell me something, now is the time to do it.”

“What I need is for you to help me. Will you help me?” Juliet asks. Jack doesn’t answer and she turns and walks away.

She says if they move all night, maybe they can still catch them.

Daniel is looking at a map. “What happens if… what if I can’t do it?” he asks Charlotte. “Dan, look at me,” Charlotte says. “I know you can do this. We should get going.”

“Yeah,” Daniel answers. “Of course.”

Kate comes stumbling in and Charlotte pulls a gun on her. “Whoa, whoa, it’s okay. It’s Kate,” Daniel says.

“So they have Miles?” Daniel asks Kate. Kate says that they’re treating him fine. She then asks the duo what they are doing out there. “The sat phone ran out of juice,” Charlotte replies, even though Kate can see that her phone has a green light.

Charlotte says they volunteered to get the packs that they threw out of the chopper. “So what’s that?” Kate asks, pointing to their bag. “Just borrowed this,” Daniel says. Kate asks if she can take a look.

“Go ahead Dan, show her,” Charlotte says. Daniel puts the bag down. Kate opens the bag and sees the gas masks. Charlotte knocks her over the head with the gun.

“What?” she asks Daniel with a shrug.

“That woman, what was her name?” Jack asks Juliet as they hike through the jungle. Juliet says that Harper was her therapist.

Flashback:

Juliet explains to Ben about the pregnancy issues, that the immune system is turning on the fetus.

Goodwin enters and Juliet smiles. He brought her a sandwich. “Besides, I have an appointment with your wife in ten minutes,” she says. Goodwin offers the sandwich to Ben but he says that he is fine.

Harper asks Juliet what she thinks of Ben. “He’s great, very smart and intense, challenging. He’s been very good to me,” Juliet says. “Of course he has, you look just like her,” Harper replies. Juliet is confused. “And I see you’ve become very close with my husband,” Harper continues.

“Yeah, he’s great. He’s been very helpful,” Juliet says. “When did you start sleeping with him?” Harper asks. She says she’s not an idiot and asks again when it started. Juliet stands up and says she’s not going to do this, she’s done.

Harper says, “I know. I followed you. Watched you.” Juliet looks down. “I’m sorry,” she says. Harper says that it’s not important. “If you continue to have a relationship with Goodwin, there will be consequences,” she says. “I don’t want him to get hurt.”

“I would never hurt him,” Juliet says.

“I’m not talking about Goodwin,” Harper interrupts. “I’m talking about Ben.”

On the Island:

Claire approaches Locke. She wants to know what is going on with Miles. Locke says not much, until he decides to talk. Claire says she wants to talk to him herself. Maybe they’re taking the wrong approach. She says she might be a little less intimidating.

“Don’t you want to know whose boat it is?” Claire asks.

Locke leaves some food for Ben. “Eat, change, put your laundry and dishes at the door,” Locke says. “I’ll be back to collect them in fifteen minutes.”

Locke begins to leave when Ben asks if the revolution has begun yet. When Locke pauses, he continues. He says that Locke is the leader now, it’s a tough position, and has to deal with all the people second-guessing his decisions. “A question here, a comment there, and if you’re not careful you’ll have a full-blown insurrection on your hands.” He says “Locke’s people” are going to be so angry when they realize that he still doesn’t have a plan.

“And I assume you have a plan?” Locke asks Ben. “I always have a plan,” he replies. “Does it involve you raising 3.2 million dollars?” Locke asks. Ben looks up and stares.

“That’s a lot of money,” Locke says. He hands Ben a dollar and starts to leave again.

Ben says that they have shared interests, or at least a common enemy. The one the freighter people work for. Ben says that if Locke lets him go he will tell him everything he wants to know. Locke says he doesn’t trust him. “Alright, I guess I’ll have to show you,” Ben says.

Flashback:

Juliet takes a dip in the ocean. Goodwin throws her a towel and they share some wine. “I wish we could do this all the time,” Goodwin says. “I hate that we have to be so private.” He says he’s been sleeping on the couch for a year. He thinks he should tell Harper but Juliet says it’s a bad idea, it might upset Ben. “Is that what this is about?” Goodwin asks. “Because he has a crush on you?” He says that everyone knows. He then says Ben has enough to worry about on the island, than to worry about them.

“What’s Ben going to do?” he asks.

The next thing we see is Oceanic 815 split in half and Ben yells for Goodwin to join the losties.

On the Island:

Jack and Juliet stumble on Kate. Jack helps her up while Juliet offers to get water. Kate explains what happened as Jack tends to her head wound. She tells him about the gas masks. Jack calls for Juliet but she is gone.

Locke leads Ben out of the basement and tells him no tricks. “We don’t even have to leave the living room,” Ben says. He turns and says, “it’s behind that picture.” It’s a safe. Ben gives him the combination. 36, 15, 28. Locke opens the door and finds a tape. “Red Sox”.

“I taped over the game,” Ben says. Locke and Ben sit down to watch it. It’s a car. “This is Charles Widmore,” Ben says. “This is the man whose boat is parked offshore. This is the man who has been trying to find the island.” On the video Widmore leads a blindfolded man down the street. It’s one of Ben’s people who got caught. He says that Widmore wants to exploit the island and will do everything in his power to possess it. The video goes fuzzy. Ben gives Locke his file on Widmore – everything he has.

Ben apologizes for not telling him sooner, but it was the only bargaining chip he had left. Locke says okay, and now he wants to know who Ben’s man on the boat is. Ben tells him he may want to sit down.

Kate and Jack hike some more. Jack asks why she didn’t stay with Locke. She tells him that she stayed to see if the people on the freighter knew who she was.

Juliet arrives at the station. She pulls the door open, throws her bag down, and pulls her gun.

Flashback:

Ben invites Juliet in. “How are you feeling?” Juliet asks. He says, never better. He is cooking dinner for them. She says that she thought it was a dinner party. “Just you and me!” he says. He thanks her for how she’s been with Zack and Emma. “They’ve been asking me about their mother in Los Angeles,” she says. Ben says that they will stop soon. Juliet says that who are they to keep them and Ben says that they were on the list.

“Now that we have everyone on the list from the tail section, what about Goodwin?” Juliet asks. Ben says that he’s making a case for Ana-Lucia. Almost inappropriately so. And there’s no reason for him to hurry back.

On the Island:

Juliet hears that there is an unauthorized attempt. She sees Daniel at the computer in a gas suit. “Override denied,” the speakers continue to say as Daniel types frantically. She pulls the gun on Daniel. “Juliet, what are you doing here?” he says.

Juliet tells Daniel to step away from the computer. “I’m so sorry, I can’t do that,” he replies. He says that he’s trying to make the gas inert. “I’m trying to make it safe.”

Charlotte attacks her from behind. The two scuffle around the floor as Daniel pounds on the computer. The contamination level is increasing. Juliet pulls the gun on Charlotte and tells her to tell Daniel to stop. Charlotte says that Ben will use the gas to kill everyone on the island. The countdown stops at 2 seconds and shuts down. The levels begin to fall.

“That … that was a close one,” Daniel says.

Flashback:

Ben enters the lab. Juliet recommends someone who has extensive experience in spinal tumor removal. “He can help you,” she says. He’s not excited. He tells her to come with him.

He leads her to Goodwin’s body. She rushes down to him, saying “Oh my God, Oh my God!”

She asks Ben why she brought her. “What, you mean, instead of his wife?” Ben asks. Juliet yells at him and says he knew this would happen. “You wanted him to die. Why?” she asks. Ben yells back at her and tells her that after everything he did to get her there, to keep her there. “You’re mine,” he says. “Take as much time as you need.”

On the Island:

Juliet and Charlotte walk out. Kate pulls a gun on them. Juliet says it’s okay, they’re on their side. Charlotte says they can explain. She leads Kate inside. Jack asks Juliet if she’s okay. “He wanted me to kill them,” she says. “Ben.”

Jack turns around. “How can he tell you anything?” he asks.

“Ben is going to win. And when he does you won’t want to be anywhere near me,” Juliet says.

“Why?” Jack asks.

“Because he thinks that I’m his. And he knows how I feel about you,” she replies. And they kiss.

Sawyer and Hurley play horseshoes. Hurley rings the pole. They see Ben walking around out in his suit. “See you guys at dinner,” he says.
