Recap

Flashforward:
It’s a car chase. Someone turns on a TV and watches the car chase on Breaking News. It’s Jack and he pours himself an OJ with some vodka. He listens to the news and they say that it is a Camaro, a vintage 70s model. Jack looks up and says “dammit.” The car swerves through traffic and crashes. The police jump out. The person inside the car sticks out his hands. It’s Hurley.

“On the ground,” they shout. Hurley makes a run for it but they throw him against the wall. “Stop, don’t you know who I am?” Hurley yells. “I’m one of the Oceanic six!”

Hurley is interrogated. They show him a video. He sees something in a convenience store and freaks out, running out of the store. The guy interrogating him says that he knew someone on the plane, Anna Lucia. “Maybe you knew her?” Hurley says that he’s sorry, he never met her. He wants to know why Hurley ran.

Hurley turns and watches the aquarium on the wall. Someone comes swimming into the picture. It’s Charlie. He puts his hands through the glass and the aquarium explodes. “Help! Help!” Hurley screams and runs for the door. The detective enters in and asks what is going on. Hurley turns and there is no water, no aquarium, just a mirror. The detective says that if he keeps this up, he’s going to the nuthouse. Hurley turns and says “thank you.”

On the Island:
Hurley radios Jack. Jack says that they are on their way to being rescued. Kate arrives, saying that Locke is nowhere to be found. Jack says if Locke comes back, he is going to kill him. Kate asks if they are really going home and Jack nods.

Rose tells Claire that Charlie is a hero and she better treat him real good when he gets back.

Ben asks Rousseau to do him a favor, get Alex and take her as far as possible. He says that everyone who stays will die, “I will not have my daughter…” Rousseau slaps him and says that it is not his daughter.

Juliet is digging a hole. Hurley tells Bernard that when he gets rescued and goes back, he’ll be free because they think he’s dead and he won’t have to deal with the money. “I want to do a cannonball,” Hurley says and goes running out to the water. Bernard laughs. Hurley jumps in with a splash. He turns to see Desmond pulling up to the beach. Desmond tells Sawyer that they need to get in touch with Jack. The people on the boat aren’t who they say they were and they need to get in touch with Jack NOW he tells Sayid, Juliet, and Bernard.

“Where is Charlie?” Hurley interrupts. Desmond gets teary and tells Hurley that he is sorry. Everyone turns away.

Jack’s phone rings. It’s the freighter crew. They’re having trouble getting a lock on their location. The guy asks to speak to Naomi. Jack and Kate turn to look at the body but she is gone. Jack asks Ben where she went.

Back on the beach Sawyer says that they have to call Jack. Sayid doesn’t want to call and raise suspicion of the freighter crew. Hurely grabs the walkie-talkie and throws it in the ocean. “We better get going,” he says.

Rousseau tells Jack that they should go find Naomi. Jack sends everyone back to the beach. Kate is worried that Naomi left a fake trail. He says that he’ll track her down and meet her at the beach. They hug. “Be careful okay,” she warns him. Ben watches thoughtfully. Rousseau, Jack, and Ben head off in the opposite direction.

The guys on the beach round up all the weapons.

Flashforward:
Hurley plays checkers in the mental institution. He has a visitor. It’s Matthew with Oceanic Airlines. He wants to talk for a few minutes. Hurley agrees and sits down. Matthew is here to talk about Hurley’s arrest and would like to extend an invitation for an upgrade. To a facility where the paint doesn’t peel off the walls, where he doesn’t have to share a bathroom… but Hurley says he’s fine right there. He asks for a business card and Matthew stands up. “Are they still alive?” he asks. Hurley asks him what. “You heard me,” Matthew says. Hurley stands up and runs off, calling for the nurse.

On the Island:
Sawyer asks Hurley if he wants to talk about Charlie, since they were buddies. Hurley says they’ll probably get to Jack faster if they don’t talk. A sensitive Sawer says to holler if he needs him. Hurley falls a little behind and starts to hear noises in the jungle. He calls out “guys, guys,” as he wanders aimlessly. A wind picks up and he sees a door to Jacob’s cabin.

Rousseau finds the end of the blood trail. She says that the trail was false. Jack feels his pocket. He realizes Kate took the phone when she hugged him. Ben says that she probably took the other trail. Jack gets angry and drags Ben behind him.

Meanwhile Kate is in the jungle with a flashlight, searching for blood droplets. She hears a transmitter sound. It’s an incoming call on the phone. She picks up. “Hello,” she says. They ask for Naomi. “We’re looking for her,” Kate says as she hangs up. Naomi drops on top of her and puts a knife to her throat. She asks for the phone. Kate swears that they would never hurt her. Naomi takes the phone and tells the freighter crew that she had an accident and she’s hurt. “I hit a tree branch when I parachuted in,” Naomi says. They ask her to change her tracking frequency. “Clear as a bell,” they respond. Naomi tells them to tell her sister that she loves her, and proceeds to die.

Hurley checks out the cabin. He sees someone rocking in a chair. A face pops up in the doorway. Hurley runs off screaming Help. The door opens. Hurley closes his eyes and says “There is nothing here.” When he looks up, Locke is standing above him.

Locke gives Hurley some water and they chat. Locke wants to know more about what Desmond said. Hurley says that Jack should never have called the people. Locke agrees and says that if they don’t talk him out of it, Charlie died for nothing.

Hurley finds the rest of the gang and says that he got lost. Locke follows him out of the woods. “I came here for the same reason you did, to warn Jack about those people on the boat.” He asks for their support. Sayid wants to know why he destroyed the submarine. Before he can answer, the rest of the Losties come traipsing out of the jungle and there is a reunion between some of the couples – Sun and Jin, Rose and Bernard.

Claire looks for Charlie and Hurley steps forward to tell her what happened. “He’s dead,” Hurley breaks down. “Charlie’s dead.” He hugs Claire tight as Claire begins to cry.

Flashforward:
Hurley is drawing out on the grounds. A guy approaches and tells him to watch out, that a guy is staring at him. Charlie steps forward. “Hey man, don’t run.” He tells Hurley to sit down, that he wants to talk to him. Charlie tells him not to freak out like he did before. Hurley says that he looks up and he’s standing over by the slushies and Hohos, what did he expect him to do? Charlie asks him to sit down again. “I am not having an imaginary conversation with you,” Hurley says. “I am dead,” Charlie says. “But I’m also here. I can prove it,” and he slaps Hurley.

Hurley asks Charlie if he knew he was going to die when he swam out. Charlie nods and Hurley asks why he didn’t tell him. Charlie says it was to spare him all the drama. But now Hurley has to do something, stop hiding from it. Charlie says the real reason that Hurley ran when he saw him was that he didn’t want to hear it. Hurley covers his ears and Charlie tells him to stop being a baby. Hurley says that when he counts to five, Charlie will be gone. As Hurley starts to count Charlie says “Don’t do this, you know they need you.” On the count of five Charlie is gone.

On the Island:
Claire asks what happened to Charlie. Jack comes out of the woods and punches Locke. He grabs the gun away and points it at Locke’s face. He shoots but nothing happens. The gun is not loaded. He then starts beating him. Sawyer pulls Jack off. Locke says that all he has ever done has been in the best interest of all of them. Kate comes out of the jungle to say that Naomi is dead and she hands the phone over.

Locke says he’s heading to the barracks, the only place on the island with security. Jack says that nobody is going with him because he is crazy. Hurley steps forward and says that Locke is not crazy… what about Charlie? He says that Charlie warned the that the people on the boat aren’t who they say they are, and he’s not listening to Jack. Jack looks remorseful.

Hurley joins Locke, as does Claire, Rousseau and Ben, Alex, and Sawyer. Kate asks what he is doing. “Surviving,” Sawyer replies.

Flashforward:

Hurley plays basketball in the institution. Jack comes through the doors, all cleaned up and with a smile. They begin a game of HORSE. They chit chat. Hurley asks why he’s there. “You checking to see if I was going to tell?” Hurley wonders. “Are you?” Jack asks. Hurley ignores the question. Jack says he has to run.

“I’m sorry,” Hurley says as Jack leaves. Jack turns. “I’m sorry I went with Locke. I should have stayed with you … I don’t think we did the right thing, Jack. I think it wants us to come back.” Jack interrupts. “We’re never going back,” and he walks out. “Never say never, dude,” Hurley replies.

On the Island:
Jack and Kate sit side by side in the rain. A helicopter flies overhead and drops parachutists. Jack runs toward them. A guy removes his helmet. “Are you Jack?” he asks.
