Yes, it’s that time again, folks. It’s Lostday. And hey, enjoy it while it lasts — counting tonight, there are only six more Wednesday nights of new Lost episodes in 2009!
Anyhoo, this week I’ve got a whole load of pregame festivities for you, so sit back, turn up the volume on your speakers, and get set to charge up those brain cells…
The big question on everyone’s minds is, of course: Is Young Ben (and therefore Adult Ben) dead? And therefore, was Daniel wrong about the castaways’ ability to change the past? Only the cast and crew of Lost know for sure, and they ain’t spilling the beans, but we’ve known for a long while now that Sterling Beaumon, the actor who plays Young Ben, is in four episodes this season. So far, we’ve only seen him in two. You do the math.
I can’t think of any other TV show where the guest cast list qualifies as heavy spoiler material, but Lost‘s guest cast is always exactly that. Let’s take a look at the guest cast for “Whatever Happened, Happened,” and keep in mind that this is a Kate-centric episode:
Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert
Kim Dickens as Cassidy
Doug Hutchison as Horace Goodspeed
Susan Duerden as Carol Littleton
Sterling Beaumon as young Ben
Patrick Fischler as Phil
Jon Gries as Roger Linus
William Blanchett as Aaron
Sebastian Siegel as Erik
Candace Scholz as Debra
Susan King as sweet young woman
Miko Franconi as grocery worker
Scott Moura as manager
Olivia Vickery as Clementine
So, on the island side of the tale, we’ve got Richard Alpert, Young Ben, and the usual Dharma suspects like Horace, Phil, Roger (Ben’s jerkwad father), and probably some others. Going into flashback mode, we’ll see Cassidy Phillips (Sawyer’s forlorn love who he swindled but fathered her baby, and who later became friends with Kate), Clementine Phillips (Sawyer’s daughter), Carole Littleton (Claire’s mom, and Aaron’s grandmother), and of course Aaron.
So it looks like we should be getting the answers to two very big questions:
- What did Sawyer ask Kate to do right before he jumped out of the helicopter?
- What in the world happened to Aaron?
Fans have long assumed that Sawyer’s request to Kate had something to do with his daughter Clementine, so that checks out. And the popular theory that Kate handed Aaron off to his biological grandmother also looks like it has some merit. What we don’t know are the details. Hopefully we’ll find out tonight.
In the meantime, here are three videos courtesy of E! Online that contain brief sneak peeks at scenes from “Whatever Happened, Happened,” tonight’s episode. It goes without saying that there are SPOILERS within.
Finally, Doc Jensen’s weekly meta-wonky pregame stream-of-consciousness thing is online here, and it’s full of plenty of food for thought.
See you after tonight’s show with my full recap & analysis.
