Taking a different tack on Ben killing Locke... Perhaps after talking Locke out of killing himself, something Locke said made Ben realize that he had made a mistake. Perhaps he realized that Locke needed to die in order for things to advance properly, so being the practical guy that he is, he helped the universe "course correct" by killing Locke after all. Locke only said two things in that period of time--he mentioned Eloise Hawking and he talked about preventing Sun from going back by lying at Jin's request. I think the latter is the key--Ben took the ring and did the opposite with it. Now Sun is "back," but it's significant that she's the only returning Oceanic passenger who did not end up in 1977. Hmmm...

I feel Ben didn't want to kill Locke when he visited. I think he felt he needed him to find a way back to the island and he wanted to use him He knew Locke was sent to get the Oceanic 6 back (and likely NOT Ben) and wanted to piggy back on their ride but once finding out how to do it (visit Eloise) he killed Locke and resumed 'the mission' in his place.

I also believe that Widmore is involved with Dharma. Maybe not initially because they were enemies to the others, but perhaps since getting off the island he hooked up with their remnant to find the island (explains the Widmore Labs product placement in season 1 or 2 - the pregnancy test). I could be wrong in this. I also think Widmore has had a huge part in most of the survivors arriving on the island perhaps to try and trace them and get back or just because of some trippy timetravel stuff and he knows they're meant to be there. I think Libby was on the payroll and that's why she gave Desmond the boat and perhaps why she is in Hurley's flashback.

PS I just finished Fearless and absolutely LOVED it! I can't wait to read Merciless - way to go Robin! You have some Australian fans!!! ("Australia is the key to the game")

I, too, was thinking that Locke can only exist wholly on the island. In the real-world plane, he must be handicapped in some manner.

I wonder if there's some kind of connection between Locke and Richard. The island keeps them both from death--Locke in his healing and resurrection, and Richard in his cessation from aging.

In the hotel room, I felt Ben was there to kill Locke from the start. His tone of voice was totally different than usual. Although some might say that was just b/c he was trying to reassure Locke. Also, maybe I'm naive, but I felt like Ben killed Locke not out of malice, but in an effort to bring everyone back to the island. Although, the fact the he said he was going to miss Locke kind of negates that.

PS. John Locke is not the chosen one. Desmond is. I'm also thinking Obama could be the Anti Christ and it's only a matter of time before we see our first beheading at a State of the Union address.

To add to the Widmore and Desmond sailboat theory, I think Widmore somehow took part in the beating of Ben when Ben tried to kill Penny. This was a realization to Desmond that if they don't take care of Ben, his wife could get murdered. Maybe they'll even be a side series with an odd couple theme purely based on Desmond and Widmore sailing the sunny skies together?

It's all about ruling the island.

Ben was a selfish ruler who was used by the dark force of the island and I still think he is all bad. I think Jacob represents the good of the island and Ben who became possessed by darkness ends up working for the dark force, used and tricked Richard to find Jacob and enslaved him with the circle of ash.
Widmore then is the legitimate leader of the island. His effort to reclaim the island were genuine, and his orders were simply to get Ben off at all costs. If Jacob is good, and imprisoned by Ben, then Widmores actions are justified.

The only thing is that Widmores ruthless tactics represent the dark force of the island.

Personally, I think Desmond and Widmore are on a sailboat TOGETHER back to the island.

Also--I liked Hurleys Sphinx drawing. I wonder if there is a connection to the 4 toed statue? Will there be more pyramid action? That would be SAWEET!
