Lisa Kudrow develops comedy for Showtime

Actress Lisa Kudrow at the Natural Resources Defense Couuncil 20th Anniversary Celebration at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills California on April 25 2009Adding to the list of stars with development deals at Showtime, Lisa Kudrow is working on a pilot idea called Rapture. The comedy would be based on the memoir by actor/writer Craig Chester, Variety reports.

With producing partner Dan Bucatinsky (Lipstick Jungle, The Comeback), Kudrow will adapt Chester’s 2003 book, which chronicles his upbringing as the gay son in a family of born-again Christians and his experiences as an indie film actor.

The TV series would start with Chester at 9 years old, when he starts to discover his sexual identity. Meanwhile, his mom is having visions of Jesus Christ, which cause his guitar-rocker dad to think she’s going crazy.

If Showtime goes for the idea, director Don Roos (Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, Bounce), a frequent collaborator with Kudrow and Bucatinsky, would helm the pilot.
