Adding to the list of stars with development deals at Showtime, Lisa Kudrow is working on a pilot idea called Rapture. The comedy would be based on the memoir by actor/writer Craig Chester, Variety reports.
With producing partner Dan Bucatinsky (Lipstick Jungle, The Comeback), Kudrow will adapt Chester’s 2003 book, which chronicles his upbringing as the gay son in a family of born-again Christians and his experiences as an indie film actor.
The TV series would start with Chester at 9 years old, when he starts to discover his sexual identity. Meanwhile, his mom is having visions of Jesus Christ, which cause his guitar-rocker dad to think she’s going crazy.
If Showtime goes for the idea, director Don Roos (Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, Bounce), a frequent collaborator with Kudrow and Bucatinsky, would helm the pilot.
