I have a lot of respect for Leona Lewis. She’s come from a reality television show and proved she’s capable of holding her own with some of the most accomplished female artists out there. She’s also the first true female diva the UK has had since Shirley Bassey.
Leona is a great singer, and will probably have a long career completely sailing against the wind of the usual fate which befalls winners of The X Factor. But this particular song may be a bit of a stretch because she’s covered a song known by everyone, and loved by most.
I need to straight away reveal that I much prefer the Snow Patrol original. The originals are always better anyway, but I think the big problem is the change of genre. Run is meant to be a rock ballad sung by a guy. That’s what it amounts to in my head so seeing a girl, even one as talented as Leona singing it, just doesn’t seem right.
Having said that, I think Leona does do the best she can with the song. And I can’t imagine anyone else covering Run any better than she has done. It’s just the fact that it’s a cover that makes it not work for me.
The video is a dire affair, just showing Leona walking through a dark landscape. Nothing happens, and there’s nothing to draw your attention apart from her very impressive rack. I suppose there are shades of the original Snow Patrol video here but that at least drew you in and made you watch. This is definitely audio only.
So, not a bad song, and one that a lot of people obviously love, but it’s not Snow Patrol, and that for me says it all. Leona is great but she should stick to original songs rather than covers in future.

Well, everyone is so entitled to their opinion and here is mine, I got goosebumps when I heard her sing this song,unreal how beautiful it is. Her voice is strong and can sing this so easy.Doesnt matter if its a cover song or not,I say Bless her for doing it and doing it well. Thanks.
