Looks like Laura Linney will join Edie Falco, Marry-Louise Parker and the stable of other amazing actresses who headline Showtime series.
The network just ordered a full season of Linney’s cancer-themed comedy pilot, formerly called The C Word. The show is now called The Big C, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Showtime entertainment president Bob Greenblatt gushed about his new leading lady in the network’s announcement of the project, which features Linney as a suburban mom who tries to cope with her cancer diagnosis through humor.
“The character and her journey are complex, requiring layered nuances of comedy and drama which I believe no one else could do better than Laura,” Greenblatt said of the triple Emmy winner. “And she’s surrounded by a gifted ensemble of actors who will bring this show vividly to life.”
Linney also will serve as one of the show’s executive producers. The series co-stars Oliver Platt, who returns to Showtime after appearing in the series Huff. Precious star Gabourey Sidibe is rumored to be joining the cast as a student in the school where Linney’s character works.
The Big C will debut on Showtime this fall.
