Gibson.com’s Lifestyle is reporting that Kurt Cobain‘s infamous Fender Mustang that was used on Nirvana‘s first US tour was auctioned off to an undisclosed collector who bought the guitar for a cool one-hundred grand.
The owner of the guitar, a punk guitar player that goes by the name “Sluggo”, probably had no clue at the time that he would ever get that much for the guitar. I imagine as years passed he realized he was sitting on a gold-mine but probably didn’t really want to part with it.
The story goes that Cobain smashed the guitar onstage during a gig (which wasn’t uncommon for Cobain), leaving him guitar-less for his next gig. He ended up trading the smashed guitar to “Sluggo” for a working guitar so he could play the next gig during tough times for the band.
