In theaters today is “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li,” and it looks to be one action-packed scene after another. Plus, if you’re a fan of Kristin Kreuk, who plays Lana Lang in “Smallville,” you’ll get to see more of her in this movie.
Based on a video game, the movie stars Kreuk as Chun-Li, a woman who takes to the streets of Hong Kong after her father is kidnapped. Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, it’s rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and martial arts action, and some sensuality. Also stars Chris Klein, Neal McDonough (Creepy Dave on “Desperate Housewives”), Moon Bloodgood, the Black-Eyed Peas’ Taboo, and Michael Clarke Duncan (love him). Check out the official "Street Fighter" site, and watch the trailer:

Oh my gosh, where to start? This story is adapted from the video game Street Fighter. It should have stayed a video game in my opinion. The dialogue is lame and the actors deliver it in much the same fashion.
The martial arts action is well choreographed and decently presented by the cast but the trouble is there should have been more of it and less chatter.
Here are a few random thoughts about this movie:
Neal McDonough as Bison was eerie with his sparkling blue eyes and conscienceless demeanor. Gen was rather forgettable but he did have a good quote “when you fight on the side of monsters, eventually you become one”. Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog is imposing as always with his booming voice and bulging biceps. Badass assasin Vega (Taboo) with his silver mask and ripping claw is suppose to be fearsome but he gets his ass kicked by Chun-Li with little trouble on her part!
Not the best movie of this genre. More action and less dialogue would have gone a long way to making it more enjoyable.

Hey Fatwayne – Thanks so much for the rundown! I haven’t seen it yet, so maybe I’ll wait and check it out on DVD.
May I craft your note into a mini-guest-review for Film Gecko?
