Though creator Eric Kripke has always said he was running Supernatural on a five-year plan, it’s starting to look like he’ll be heading into overtime with a sixth season of the spooky series.
Check out this short item by EW’s Ausiello. He quotes CW boss Dawn Ostroff as saying she recently had lunch with Kripke and he’s “excited about the show right now. I think he feels this season has been really satisfying for him.”
Add her remarks (read the rest here) to the recent People’s Choice Awards win and it would seem that everyone wants another season except maybe the actors. With both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki scheduling weddings for the hiatus and Jared Padalecki actively talking about selling his Vancouver home and moving back to LA, it sounds like they’re both ready to move on.
So here’s the question – if either Jensen or Jared wanted to leave the show, how would you feel about watching one Winchester brother go it alone or with a new partner in the passenger seat?
Suppose Sam went dark side and Dean found a new young protege that would allow him to go back to the way things were – him as the big brother, hunting evil with replacement little brother in tow? I’m not suggesting an actual Winchester brother, we’ve done that, but I’ve always been fond of Michael from Something Wicked. He knows the score and now he’s old enough to hit the road with Dean and learn to become a hunter himself.

It’s just a tv show, people! It’s one thing to enjoy watching something worthwhile like Supernatural, but then some of you make such harsh personal attacks against people you don’t even know. Grow up! Some of you seriously need a reality check.
Supernatural a 6 Season would be great I love Supernatural and a lot of other people do in my Country austria it would be unfair for us fans not to have a 6 season of Supernatural we have just stated season 3 what because they have to translate it in German. Jensen and Jared are great actors well they are both engaged now an they have a lot of things to do but I think no one can play Dean and Sam as good as they can Supernatural woudn´t be Supernatural without them I am a huge fan of them and I can´t emagine Supernatural without them they are meant to be on this show ! I am now 2 years in youtube and because of Supernatural I have a lot of Friends there they are in youtube because of Supernatural can´t emagine how it would be to tell them there won´t be a 6 season that would be horrible as they are already guessing what will be in the next season I just can say one thing I love this show and It would be awsome to have a season six of the best show ever !!!!!
Me and my husband just love Supernatural, we both watched season 1 till 4, and after every season we wait in patient for the next season to come out on DVD, we buy it by internet and then we just watch episode after episode. We’re from Belgium, and supernatural was only 1 season on TV. Our friends watch our DVD’s and also friends from work watch it. We all think the story is great, it’s exiting, surprising, romantic sometimes and the 2 brothers play there role excellently. It feels like we understand every emotion there going true. Jensen is great, Jarid is great and acting together as brothers they are perfect! It would be a shame if 1 of the boys would go. Because supernatural was also about family and brotherhood, so if 1 of the boys go… then it’s different.
But if the story is still great and the actors are as good as Jensen and Jered. We would still watch it I guess. But it won’t be the same, that I know.
Now I’m just counting down until we can buy season 5 on DVD… :)
You do realize that the gossip about Jared wanting to leave is just that Cynthia – gossip. Its from a GOSSIP site and I am surprised you would repeat it here. Its shameful the amount of crap Jared has received from this fandom, this fandom has become a disgrace and I am surprised you would invite the insanity here with an article that seems designed to rile up fans.
@Sarah: “I wish a licensed psychologist would come to this board and read these posts. She/he would have a field day trying to analyze all the conflicting viewpoints and hateful attitudes and words being thrown about.”
Ain’t it the truth! And a shame. Over a TV show and fictional characters.
Be that as it may, if there is a Season 6, I hope Kripke will right the wrongs he did with both characters. Redeem Sam and let him and Dean have a grown-up, mature brotherly/friend relationship. Get back to basics, saving people, hunting things. Heck, let Castiel have his own seat of honor in the Impala! Just stop with all the damn angst and gleeful (on Kripke’s part, per his own words at the beginning of S4) division of fandom. I so miss Season 1, 2, and 3 when it seemed everyone was on the same page and loved both Sam and Dean. This disdain and hatred toward him is disturbing. Not to mention the hatred that spills over to Jared by virtue of his playing the character (not here, but other boards I have read). Stop the insanity! LOL
@Sylvie
Just to add. This comment by you: “I’m 100% sure that the writers would tell you you’re way off base” is way off base. Or did you miss the interview where Kripke said that Sam broke the last seal due to selfishness and pride?
@Sylvie
I saw those redeeming qualities you mention – at FIRST. That’s why Sam turned to Ruby while Dean was in hell. He was overcome with grief and he wanted revenge for Dean. I understand that. However, he then became addicted to the power (as highlighted by everyone from Chuck, to War (in season 5), as well as in his hallucinations) and in the process treated Dean like scum. He used Dean’s suffering in hell to justify himself as being NEEDED to be the strong one. He continued on his road to breaking the last seal, because he couldn’t give up the power and control he had. Not to mention how special he felt. These things were clear as daylight during his hallucinations and his general treatment of Dean, including mocking him that the angels could possibly think Dean’s the one for the job.
THESE are the things that Sam fans are in denial about. His motives started out noble, but became reprehensible; and with that his behavior towards Dean. That’s where his terrible betrayal lies as well, NOT in breaking the seal.
Just catching up and as usual, the fans of this show do themselves so proud.
So basically some of you are saying that if one of the show’s co-leads wants to leave then the other lead actor and his fanbase should be punished by ending the show even if they are still enjoying everything. Even if the rest of the cast and crew want to keep making the show to the best of their abilities, the actions of that one actor should determine whether or not the rest of them can continue to earn a living.
Thanks for that.
Remind me to never watch another show with an active fanbase. I really don’t want to know what kind of small-minded people are out there.
@Diane
Your analysis of Sam pretty much proves my point about the character being underdeveloped. Sam says very little most of the time, and we’re left with filling in the silences with how we percieve him. You obviously see a Sam with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, who doesn’t love his brother and felt no grief for his death or no guilt for not getting his brother back from Hell. I’m 100% sure that the writers would tell you you’re way off base. But Sam never talks about what he felt last year, so you can make up whatever you like.
@ Lynn said:
“Sorry Muse, unlike you. I may be not that into Jensen, but I don’t hate him. Frankly, I feel nothing about him. Just an actor on TV!!”
Really Lynn, just “another actor” on TV that you happen to keep quotes about ready to whip out when the opportunity arises? LOL! If you have no interest in Jensen, then why are you wasting your time here discussing him, i.e.:
“Sometime I just very pity for Jensen, he means nothing but a so called ‘pretty face’ to his batshitty fans.”
Batshitty fans? Really? So not only do you have to bash Jensen but you have to bash the fans as well?
So, safe to say that you’re a SAM girl, huh Lynn? ;)
I wish a licensed psychologist would come to this board and read these posts. She/he would have a field day trying to analyze all the conflicting viewpoints and hateful attitudes and words being thrown about.
Cynthia, isn’t it time to call an end to this? Nothing is being served by continuing the comments area of this article. ‘
@Muse
Brilliant posts. I literally LOL’d at that first one of yours.
@Sylvie
I laugh every time I read that Sam is “underdeveloped” or a “blank slate”. Sam fans continuously bemoans this, yet he’s been developed plenty, we’ve seen show his psyche PLENTY. You just don’t like what you’ve seen.
You don’t like that we’ve been shown a selfish, power-hungry Sam; a Sam who was so desperate to be the hero and be more special than his brother, that he convinced himself that Dean was weak. He needed to see Dean as weak to justify himself and finally feel superior to his brother. He not only fed on demon blood, but psychologically fed off his brother’s trauma after Hell to realize this need for power and superiority. So maybe one shouldn’t blame you for being in denial!
@Muse
Now, I sincerely worry about your ‘Reading Comprehension Ability’.
But Yes, you are right. This is no meaning to continue this discussion. Because for your people, if you don’t like Jensen, so you must hate him!!
Sorry Muse, unlike you. I may be not that into Jensen, but I don’t hate him. Frankly, I feel nothing about him. Just an actor on TV!!
@Lynn
Ah I got you now thanks. Sorry to imply that you were making things up. I had no idea such quotes existed or that you kept them in your, er, trunk. Though I am kind of intrigued at why that would be so. Are Sam fans now trolling for negative comments on Jensen fans sites and if so, to what end? That is what I don’t understand? What are you trying to prove?
You don’t like Jensen. I think we all get that loud and clear. But are you suggesting that Jensen fan sites are filled with people who don’t like him anymore because he had a Mohawk and piercings in a movie? Even if it’s true, who cares? Do you think every single Jared fan likes and approves of every single thing he has ever done? Oh wait, I guess they have to otherwise they will be drummed out of the very special Sam Fan Martyr Club.
Also I think the whining crack is rather amusing coming from your side of great divide, as is the demand that others take responsibility. The level of entitlement exhibited just in the comments to this article are quite telling. But since you think you’re the only ones who have a right to express any sort of opinion and that you can tell everyone else how to think and what to post, I suppose there isn’t much point in continuing this discussion.
I don’t think that I’d watch if either Jared or Jensen left. Their chemistry and the brother relationship is what drew me to the show. I don’t really care all that much about the mytharc. If I did though, I’d rather Supernatural continue on with Sam, rather than Dean. Dean has been the vicim of his own popularity: Over exposed and over developed. There’s not much more to develop with the character, IMO. Dean with a brand new “protege” would be nothing more that trying to recreate the brother relationship of the early years and would be boring to me. Sam, on the other hand, has been so neglected by the writers that he’s still pretty much a blank slate and there’s lots of ground to cover.
Really, though, I doubt that either Jensen or Jared would be interested in continuing beyond their contract and as you said Cynthia, they look ready to move on. Your artice serves nothing but to inflame the fandom.
@Muse: That’s not a forum I go to very often but even so, I’m not sure I understand your point.
“I don’t know a single Jensen fan that didn’t think he was super-hot in TIH. Do you have a link to these complaints or are you just pulling this out of your rear-end as well? Also for someone who complains about JP being bashed, you sure have no problems insulting Jensen.”
I think you know what my point is. If you are not sure about something, don’t curse people like you know everything. And stop whining like everybody owes you, try grow up and take some responsibility. Your word may be spreaded as rumor!!
Someword goes to Cynthia
@Lynn That’s not a forum I go to very often but even so, I’m not sure I understand your point. So you went trolling and found a couple of fans who weren’t crazy about his look in one movie. What does that prove? Did they stop being fans because he had a mohawk? If so, who cares? How does that reflect badly on Jensen? OK don’t answer that. I really don’t care. This whole conversation is ridiculous.
“But face it, the first and only one who said bad word to those two actors is your ‘friend’ Leigh , go back to check her old comment~” LOL! Good one. Did actually read the whole thread? Again, rhetorical question so you don’t need to answer that.
And really this whole comment thread is ridiculous. Poor Cynthia was just idly speculating…presenting a what if scenario and the sam fans instantly went crazy and started attacking her as if she had deeply insulted Jared. She didn’t and neither has anyone else who suggests that one or both of the boys may not want to do a season 6.
If one of them wants out and the CW still wants to do the show, Kripke will have to find a way to make it work and all kinds of alternative scenarios will be tossed around. That’s all that was going on here but naturally it’s so much better to start screeching about how everyone is mean to their favorite actor. It’s ridiculous and it’s why it is impossible to take anything in this fandom seriously.
Why would Jared wanting to sell his house in Vancouver and actively seek to move to LA be an indication of his not wanting to be part of the 6th season?
As I understand it, not only is the show looking for renewal but they are also possibly looking to have production relocated to Ontario Canada for the 6th season if Vancouver can’t or won’t match the tax credit. Jared would be smart to sell his house if he has to relocate to Ontario for 9 months to film the 6th season and posibly final season. After that 9 months he has money to invest in other property and he has a home base in LA from which to meet with producers and actively seek work after Supernatual has finished it’s run and I have serious doubts that the show could run for seven, but it might.
Also if it’s only for 9 more months then I could see both he and Jensen justifying going back to living in a hotel and starting to make plans to gear their lives back towards LA and other projects. The only downside I see is Jared might find another starring TV role and end up it films in Vancouver too.
@Muse
‘Getting back to Jensen’s look. I understand how some people may think it is weird or creepy but not really.’
by angel d @http://loyalfans.net/j-forum/
some will like new things..others wont…but that does not look like Jensen to me lol! his hair..is blue..then black..but his sideburns appear to be brown..thats just plain weird…that look makes him appear so much older..
by island_chick @http://loyalfans.net/j-forum/
Oh, there is more, consider it’s a Jensen-Fans forum, did you really know nothing about that? Or you just choose to ignore it?? Oh, wait, they’re Jensen-hater~
I do think JP is attractive~ I also think JA is attractive, but not pretty, MANLINESS!!!
There is no one whine about JA’s performance, actually we think he’s better in SPN then before, and we also think JP is not mature enough to be a leading actor in the movie, he need more time~But face it, the first and only one who said bad word to those two actors is your ‘friend’ Leigh , go back to check her old comment~
