Jonathan Rhys Meyers talks about The Tudors third season

Jonathan-Rhys-Meyers-arrives-in-Dublin-May-2008With The Tudors second season behind him, The Los Angeles Times found Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a reflective mood. The uber intense star, shown here arriving at the Dublin airport in advance of shooting the third season, covered a lot of ground in a recent interview:

• He compared himself to an NBA athlete in terms of his preparation for playing Henry VII — “it’s always game time.”

• He said when shooting’s done on The Tudors, he’d be happy not to see a doublet, knee-high boot or pair of boobs for a while.

• He gave the standard “it’s an honor just to be nominated” answer to the question of how he handles award season.

Even better, he dished about the new season of the show, which starts shooting June 16. Find out what he has to say after the jump.

JRM’s take on The Tudors in future seasons — without the Henry/Anne romance to anchor the show:

From here on, the story is all about Henry and his descent into a sort of isolation, paranoia as well as extreme pain as a result of the accident he suffered in the joust last season. Things start off great for him with his marriage to Jane Seymour. She was an amazing wife, a Stepford wife, but she doesn’t last long after their son is born. After that, Henry becomes very closeted, and the next wives were all disasters. Katherine Howard was a nymphomaniac. There’s plenty of good story to tell.

I really look forward to the 3rd season of The Tudors, but I think that Natalie Dormer (Anne Boleyn) was very important for this show, its not going to be the same without her.

TVNZ is currently showing the first series of THE TUDORS and I have a comment to make about an early episode which screened a few weeks ago and featured some court dances. Having briefly studied the music of this period some years ago, I have kept my iterest by listening to cds and occasionally performing it. In this particular episode, and I am sorry, I can’t remember which one it was now, I immediately recognised the music as one of the Dances from Terpsichore by Michael Praetorius. composed in 1612. Henry VIII died in 1547 – 65 years before these dances were composed! I would have thought you would have researched your material with more care. However, despite that minor slip-up, I think it is an excellent series and am enjoying it very much.

I am a great fun of the Tudors. At last something educational on the BBC.
I love history and I have a great passion for the period costumes of all times.
I am a fashion graduate and I can not simply wait for the next episode.

Problem with this story is that all the main characters get their heads cut off. The loss of Natalie will leavea huge hole, she played the part so well.
