After media reports that he’d spent time in rehab this winter and rumors that he missed promotional appearances for The Tudors third season because of alcoholism, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is on the offensive.
He swears he just needed time to chill out, so he skipped a few awards ceremonies and TV appearances. He admitted seeing a counselor in England, The Evening Herald reports, but said people think he’s a lot “naughtier” than he really is.
“I’m actually quite a boring guy,” he said, yet he can’t seem to find his way out of the tabloids.
“I spent the last week and a half playing bloody golf,” he added. “Me, Jonathan Rhys Meyers! If anyone saw me in those stupid golf clothes on the golf course, there would have been a different story written!”
Maybe it’s because he plays the role of the wild child so well. Or maybe it’s because of his on-again, off-again relationship with Reena Hammer (the photo of the two here is undated; they supposedly called off their engagement in 2007 but reconciled in 2008. They’ve rarely been photographed together since). Regardless, as long as he’s working in Hollywood, we won’t find JRM boring at all.
