Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Johnny Depp might play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s remake of the classic Alice in Wonderland 3-D, scheduled for a 2010 release. Sounds like a casting coup to me.
EW’s source reveals that the film will be live-action until Alice (played by Mia Wasikowska of HBO’s In Treatment) falls down the rabbit hole and meets the loopy tea party host.
I wonder if Depp will don the Hatter outfit, or if he’ll just lend his voice to a computer-generated character. Seems like a waste of good Depp-karma if they just use his voice, doesn’t it?
Neither Disney nor Depp are confirming the rumor, but let’s hope it’s true.
