Joe McElderry Wants To Release Cover Of Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin”, As If We Haven’t Had Enough Of That Song

On his way to winning The X Factor, Joe McElderry sang a cover of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’ a couple of times. And he did a great job with the song. So much so that he’s now keen to release it as a single. The problem is that the original is already in the charts, and so is the cover by the cast of Glee. Enough already!

Journey Don't Stop Believin'

When McElderry sang Don’t Stop Believin’ for the first time, I must admit to never having heard of the song or the band. What can I say? Power ballads and overly-commercial rock aren’t my thing.

I like the song though. Not only did McElderry force it into my eardrums, but the continuous trailers for Glee did too. And now I even know what the original sounds like. Both versions have been in the U.K. singles chart for two weeks now, with the cast of Glee managing to hit number three.

But two versions of the song obviously aren’t enough, with three being the magic number. At least according to De la Soul. So, according to Digital Spy, McElderry is now aiming to have his version (the corniest of the lot by far) released as his next single.

If there’s a year’s gap between now and its eventual release, then maybe I’ll accept it, but otherwise it just stinks of overkill. Journey may get even richer from the royalties but it’ll kill the sing off for goo. If that hasn’t happened already.

Don’t do it Joe, or I may have to go all Rage Against The Machine on you.
