The battle is on, with the race for Christmas number one between The X Factor winner Joe McElderry and Rage Against The Machine. It’s time to choose sides – do you want The Climb or Killing In The Name to top the UK music charts this Sunday and be crowned Christmas number one?

If you’re not aware of what battle I’m speaking of then read this post and this post first, and then come back here when you’re caught up. In essence, it’s an attempt by a group of music fans on to see something other than The X Factor top the charts this holiday, and it’s being organized via Facebook.
Here are the runners and riders…
Joe McElderry – The Climb
RATM – Killing In The Name
This is a battle fought on many fronts – it’s rock vs. pop, good vs. evil, natural talent vs’ manufactured talent. The two songs really couldn’t be any different; they’re like chalk and cheese, black and white, the normal way of wearing trousers and the Simon Cowell way of wearing trousers.
While Joe McElderry remains the favorite for number one, bookies have slashed the odds on Rage Against The Machine making it, with William Hill’s Rupert Adams telling NME:
“The X Factor has had a monopoly over the Christmas Number One but there is a real buzz about Rage Against The Machine. We might just have the biggest upset in Christmas chart history!”
It’s also being reported that Killing In The Name won the first round, outselling The Climb in the iTunes download chart. However, while the RATM campaign may falter towards the end of the week, McElderry’s will come into its own on Friday as kids head out to buy the record.
This battle is making the charts a lot more interesting and relevant than they usually are. And I can’t wait until Sunday (Dec. 20) to see who wins the fight.

tbh i’m not that keen on either of them but i want rage against the machine to be top of the uk’s charts as x factor always dominates our charts.
some people will say thats unfair because joe should have his spot light too but i personally don’t like him and thought olly should of won!
but joe would be very good in broadway which is where he should be :D
sorry went on a bit there lol
Have a Good Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xxx

I think is disgusting that a campaign of people, some not even from britian go against someone just because they dont like the xfactor, the song that is number one the crap rage one isnt a christmas song is it?! Joes song might not be amazing but people were buying it so why shouldnt it go to number one because a group of dumb pricks dont like it.

It is simple Johnny. Principles. You know. Something like the principle of getting completely sick of being force-fed pap which you are almost brain-washed into buying because it is piped into your living room for three months before Christmas. Maybe it is unfortunate for Joe, but did he write the song he was singing? Didn’t think so. At least the number one was performed by those who wrote it. Doesn’t that make it more worthy of recognition?
