I received quite a few comments this week, after I grumbled about Jericho fans pouring more money into the fight to get the show renewed. One commenter in particular pointed out the fact that the fans were also involved in several community service projects and I say, that’s more like it.
Currently, the fans at Jericho Rangers for Our Troops are collecting money to send DVDs to soldiers. Last year they raised enough money to send 100 box sets of Season One to the troops and they got some great photos and videos of thanks in return (you can see them at the website.)
Now they’re in the process of sending over Season Two. If I’m reading the site right, the date to donate has passed but there are still plenty of ways you can support the troops as a fan of Jericho. Just visit Jericho Rangers for Our Troops and see what’s going on over there.
I’m still not crazy about 6,000 dollars going to an advertisement, but for everything I applaud you. Good luck with your efforts.

Glad you like it! I think I can say, the Rangers like it more… But, the recipients of all of this, like it best! My brothers in Iraq, so this is pretty special to me too! Thanks for covering what we’re doing with the troops.
Cynthia brings up a great point. We love it when you guys talk to us and you don’t have to wait until you’re ticked off to do so. Let us know about Jericho efforts, former Jericho stars’ new projects or whatever else is on your mind.
I’ve yet to meet the SF fan that likes only one show, so by all means let us know what you want to see more of, less of or just let us know you’re here.
I know I annoyed a lot of people with my original post, but I’m glad it sparked so many of you to come in here and tell my readers about the positive things the Jericho fans are doing for the community.
I love it when fandom uses its power for the greater good.
Thank you Cynthia for the follow up article on our charitable activities for Jericho. I am very proud to say that I am a Jericho Ranger. We do lots of good work for lots of causes. And I don’t need your say so or approval on what I spend my money on. I don’t tell you how to spend yours.
Thanks for this article about our community’s giving. We can give to others as we fight for our show and one is as important as the other.
Thanks for the mention about how generous Jericho fans have been with several charities. We appreciate the recognition but we’re a giving bunch, as you now have come to realize, and so don’t have a problem with donating also to our favorite cause… that of getting Jericho back for a 3rd season.
We’ve also sent 210 jars of peanut butter to the Food Bank of Kansas so far with hopefully plenty more on the way. Please visit Radio Free Jericho for more information on how to donate.

Thank you, Cynthia, for mentioning the Jericho community’s giving nature. Yes, we are a community and like any community, we come together to help those in needs. It started with the very first NUTS!! campaign when proceeds of the purchase of the nuts and Tee Shirts raised $20,000 for the victims of the tornado in Greensberg, KS. Also, those 20 tons of nuts were donated to the troops and various shelters and food banks.
So, from the very beginning we “Nuts” have been concerned with our fellow man and put our money into it.
I appreciate your concern, but I spend my money as I want. No one coerced or bullied me into donating a portion of that $6,000. That TV commercial is sending a message to the advertisers who no longer have Jericho to advertise during. The message is – we no longer see your ads as we are not watching what’s on TV, but we do have money to spend!
Thank you for writing about the generosity of the Jericho fans. Jericho brought this awesome group of fans together and for that I will always be grateful to CBS.
In the true spirit of the how the folks of Jericho pulled together after the attacks the fans of Jericho are doing the same. The humanitarian efforts of this fan community never cease to amaze me. Yes, I was proud to serve those who serve me by participating in this campaign and others.
Thanks for your article, stay tuned for more Jericho love.
I have never been more proud to be involved in such and effort and to be called a Ranger. As my fellow rangers have stated, we are much more than a bunch of crazed fans trying to get our beloved Jericho back on the airwaves. Thru our efforts and our drive, we have supported and funded many charitable causes. Perhaps Cynthia, you should become a Ranger too………it’s not just about saving Jericho, it’s also about being human and helping those in need. You would have plenty to blog about! I am proud to call these rangers my friends…….
Thank you so much for writing about this wonderful effort. As you mentioned, the deadline date for this leg of the drive has ended, but there are many ways to support the troops.
BTW – through cash collection, gift cards and DVDs that were purchased outright on Amazon.com, JR4OT was able to send 219 DVDs to deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Stanton Island Project Homefront will be delivering the DVDs along with messages from Jericho fans to the troops.
A Florida middle school class of students also raised enough money to purchase 21 DVDs for this effort.
A special 10-year old girl from Jericho4Kids.com conducted a raffle that raised $267 and an auction conducted at the Jerichon in Oakley, KS provided proceeds that went to both the DVDs for the Troops and Rebuilding Greensburg KS efforts.
Jericho Rangers are currently running a Food Bank Drive and providing support to tornado victims in Manhattan KS.
Jericho Rangers are so much more than just avid fans of one the best TV shows to ever air. But yes – we are also NUTS for Jericho.
I mean no harm, Cynthia, but please tell me what’s wrong with spending $6K on ads to promote a quality entertainment program which people enjoy during their leisure time. All of us, you included, have expendable income — either a little or a lot — that goes toward things that bring us enjoyment.
On the other hand, I will say that Jericho fans are quick to open their wallets to promote their show, but even more quick to contribute to causes that benefit people with unmet needs. $6K is a drop in the bucket compared to the money Jericho fans have raised on behalf of victims of tornadoes in Greensburg, KS; two waves of a campaign to buy DVDs for deployed members of the military; several drives to send boxes and boxes of ‘care packages’ to service men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan; donations to food banks; and, a number of smaller-scale efforts to help people with various needs.
So, criticism for a mere $6K, when considered in the grand scheme of all Jericho fans’ fundraising efforts on behalf of good causes, seems a little like much ado about nothing.
With that said, I do thank you for your positive wishes and applause! That you care about philanthropic efforts speaks very positively about you as a person. And we appreciate your spreading the word about how people can be further involved in these community service projects. Many thanks to you!
Jericho fans have opened their hearts again. This time to ship 219 Jericho Season 2 DVD’s to our Troops serving overseas, via the Staten Island Project Homefront. (SIPH is a 100% volunteer organization that coordinates receipt, packing an shipping of care package items to our men and women serving.)
If this effort helps our men and women serving let their minds leave where they are for even a short time, then we can all know we did a little something to improve their day and thank them for their sacrifices.
I have never been prouder to be part of an effort than this. A true testament to the giving nature of Jericho Fans.
Our future plans at JR4OT include expansion of this effort to other television fan bases to include their shows for the troops. In addition, plans are underway to also include Veterans as recepients of future shipments.
Thank you for this coverage.
Don’t get those Jericho fans angry, you wouldn’t like them when they’re angry.
