Jericho Fans Respond

When the Jericho fans got a bit miffed over my statements earlier this week, I offered them a chance to rebut and here’s what they had to say:

In accepting your kind offer to respond on the charitable contributions that the Rangers have done, I wanted to provide you with concise and accurate information that frankly, I’m not in charge of! So, I went to our home base on the CBS community board for Jericho and asked for help, LOL Well, I got responses today while I was at work on that board, but the Rangers came to you too! We got word today of your kudos to us on our DVD drive for the Troops, and I thank you so much for that.

Let me give you a total of what fans have done over the last year to help folks, and keep the spirit of Jericho alive in our communities through charitable contributions:

2007:

Save Greensburg Kansas (hit by a category 5 tornado 2007)

$20,667.00

DVD’s to the Troops:

Raised by JR40T

Approximately 94 DVD’s at a cost of $35 per DVD

$3295.70

1st year Donations: $23,962.70

2008

Guardians of Jericho

$4000.00 raised for charity which included Greensburg Kansas, and the VFW in Oakley

$4262 Subtotal

$3025 (adjusted total as $975 is included in the DVD for Troops figure)

DVD’s to the Troops

219 DVD’s total (average cost per DVD is $20.00 not including shipping)

$4380 (approximately, as we haven’t factored in shipping and if it’s a “Complete DVD series, which costs $30+)

Current and Ongoing Work:

Spreading the Nutty Love (through the month of July)

Kansas Food Bank

Total to date:

210 16.3 ounce jars of peanut butter

Total: in excess of:

$445.20 (not including taxes and other donations of cereal, and other potable food items)

Subtotal first 6 months of 2008:  $7850.20

Total to Date 2007-2008 Donations from Jericho Fans to Charity: $31,812.90*

(This figure is probably too low as there’s more going on than I am completely aware of and I am confident, as I’m sure you are, that we’ll hear what I missed.)

* So, we used much less than 1/3 of the total money we raised through sales of nuts, shirts, auctions of memorabilia from Jericho, etc… to buy advertising for our campaign to find Jericho a new home. The remaining, in excess of 2/3’s raised, was donated to charity. Should we give up? I think you know the answer to that one, hehehe (And if it’s still a thought that we should “let it go” ask the Kansas Food Bank, or the VFW in Oakley Kansas, or the city of Greensburg. They’d be perfectly willing to talk to you and tell you the answer to us just “letting it go.”)

Let me close by saying what I said on our board this morning before I left the house for my job, and add a little bit to it:

Art imitates life, always. The town in the series Jericho spoke of sharing and generosity in times of need. It spoke of community and family and how important it is. Whether Jericho kicked people in the butt and made them realize that they need to be more charitable and care about each other, or it got people of like minds together on a forum like the CBS Jericho Community, who knows. But what really matters is we ARE united here on our board because of a quality program that we loved and inspired us and that we could identify with as a group.

Many groups and organizations are so very much more than the visible transparent things they produce or are involved in from a spectators view. They are good citizens, community members, well the morally conscious one’s are. I consider the Jericho Rangers one of the good guys, and by far one of the best organizations I’ve had the pleasure to be involved with. I work in the media and do community education pieces on the radio – nationwide as my profession. And I can tell you, the Jericho Rangers are tenacious and focused on any endeavor they chose to undertake. But they do it with hearts bigger than I’ve ever seen in all my years in media.

I appreciate the chance to set the record straight in your forum and invite you to also watch the episodes – really watch the episodes and get a picture of what commitment to family and community is on this series! Visit our websites anytime you’d like, and get involved with us to make a difference, not only in television or cable for better quality scripted productions, but in our communities here and our fans from around the world.

Thanks for your help in advance, Cynthia! We look forward to seeing you soon on some of our Jericho boards! :-)

Jericho is my favorite show since i was a kid quite awhile ago. I’m a complete virgin when it comes to this sort of thing as i just got this computer ”my 1st.” a year ago so what do i know. I know this much there are tons of people like me who love not like but love this show and will do everything they can to save it i’m with them till the end if that makes us family thats good by me as i have very little and i’ve gotten much response and encouragement from so many that i feel as though they are family. Long live ”Jericho” and it’s United family.

Keep up the good work, Rangers! And thanks for all the comments. Keep touching base with us. What are some of your other favorite shows?

Wow, what else is there to say? We are dedicated and loyal but also very big hearted and caring. We are so much more that fans of a tv show even tho that is what brought us all together in the first place. Whether we agree or disagree with what is going on, we are bound together to support and help causes that are very important and dear to our hearts. If in the process we end up saving our beloved Jericho, then it is a “win-win” situation for us and them. Jericho Rangers are the most awesome fans of any tv show that has ever been! Way to go my fellow rangers! I am proud to be one of you!

Thank you Cynthia for giving us a chance to set the record straight and expand on all of the efforts that have surrounded our show. I’m pretty sure this was mentioned in the first article but just in case I”d like to make sure and point out that all of the peanuts that were sent to CBS last year were donated to zoos, homeless shelters and our troops serving overseas. So while the Rangers didn’t directly donate them they still provided quite a lot of snacks for a wide variety of people and animals.

Thank you for allowing coconutgirl/nightshade to respond with this followup to your more recent article. As said before, the Jericho fan community is a diverse group of people, from all walks of life, from all age groups. (That should say something right there about the quality of the show.) All have come together for the love of a television show, yes, but also with caring and concerned hearts for fellow man in need. Please take a few minutes to REALLY look at the heart of the fandom and see what is beyond a tv ad/billboard ad/magazine articles and you will see the heart of Americans.

Thank you Cynthia for allowing Coconut Girl to follow up and enhance your story with the compassionate storyline of the Jericho fans.

This fan community is not the typical teenager sitting at the keyboard. The community is so diverse it is mind blowing! The Jericho community really does mirror the little town of Jericho. They are wonderful folks!
